Well that was exciting.

We didn’t handle the occasion well at all, bar Virgil and Szob, who I thought were excellent.

This system is leaving us very open indeed.

Just like Bournemouth, there were lots of positives and lots of negatives.

The shirt is looking bit too big for Kerkez atm. That’s a bit of a worry.

We also still don’t look particularly fit.

I think I recall fitness being a struggle at the start of last season too, two short preseasons in a row may have something to do with it? I wondered if Slot uses the opening few games of the season to build fitness and peak at the right time of year but we looked shattered most of the back end of last season too

Kerkez is definitely a worry and Robertson has to start against Arsenal and take some pressure of Kerkez. He will be absolutely fine, but needs time to get to understand the system.

I probably wouldn’t start Wirtz on reflection either I think you need the energy of Szoboszlai ahead of Mac and Grav to get anything out of the game especially while Wirtz gets accustomed to the league.

Ekitike looks really good, probably the only bright point aside from Szoboszlai last night. A really poor performance all round and I don’t quite know how we managed 3 points.

Carra described it as the best performance from a losing team and worst performance for a winning team and I agree.

Let’s get a CB wrapped up and then please for the love of god sign a proper CDM so we can become a more balanced and solid outfit.

We’re almost certainly not signing a DM, there’s been no mention of it whatsoever. We just need to get the balance right with what we have. Obviously, having MacAllister back will help, and Slot has said himself the team will need time to adjust, so I’m not hugely concerned (yet).

We just need to get Gueli done, whatever it costs. Konate needs a rocket up his backside by knowing he won’t be picked no matter how bad he plays.

And who was it that said ‘Szob just isn’t a very good footballer’?

And in the least surprising news of the summer, it looks like Rodrygo is staying at Madrid. I’ve said all along that I didn’t think we were seriously interested in him, and it looks like his agents visit to the UK was all about him getting what he wanted from Madrid.

Wirtz won’t be dropped, and tbh I doubt Kerkez will either at this stage.

I’d be amazed if we signed a CDM too.

It’ll be the same team vs Arsenal I reckon, with maybe Bradley coming in at RB (although Szob may stay there for this one) and AMA replacing Jones.

Both goals last night are very easily avoidable, while our goals were all very good. That bodes well imo, but this system is FAR too open atm and the counter press is non-existent. That’ll take some more time, but we’re very capable of beating Arsenal.

Probably the most confident 1st goal by a teenager since that Rooney goal!

Also I gave Sboz some stick, but he was immense yesterday.

Apparently Newcastle are set to bid again for Strand Larsen.

Isak is happening, less sure on Guehi now Coty may be involved, although, honestly, unless it’s about money, I think we’re a better option for him.

The 80's have just called, they are asking Newcastle for their football tactics back.

Long throws corners and long free kicks lumped up to Dan Burn.

This was before the red card as well.

Newcastle played exactly as they had to and it basically worked.

Agreed on Szob. Maybe he's enjoying his role this season more than last season.

Goals were avoidable but the performance still stunk. There was no control even when we had the player advantage which is a concern. Our passing really needs to improve all over the pitch. We scored a great goal when we put a few passes together.

But thats unsettling the player isn't it????????

The horse punching morons have been spitting feathers at us for just bidding once.

Yep, they didn’t handle the occasion at all well imo. It really got to everyone bar Virg and Szob I feel.

But what an experience for the new lads. If they didn’t know what the Prem was about, and indeed playing for Liverpool, then they do now.

Sounds like we're still his preferred destination. Just need to get this one over the line

Watching Rio’s goal celebration is funny. He starts running to the fans behind the goal, then realises they’re all dressed in black and white, and changes direction

I've been in that Newcastle a few years back. Worst away supporters end in the league by a country mile. It's also a country mile away from the pitch.
