Yeah if you look at our fixtures we’ve played Arsenal, a derby, biggest rivalry and the team in 2nd at home. Away to Newcastle, Chelsea, Palace, Brentford(good home form atm) I know everyone plays each team twice, but we have been facked over with what we got given, aswell as bedding in half a new team.

I think December when we get more home games and easier opposition, we can start climbing the table.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We will improve but it’s already too late for me
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wouldn't say it's too late but it's a tough ask even if we suddenly go on a winning run again

They are not used to winning the league so pressure will kick in
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pressure is largely dependent on a team being close enough to be a credible threat. Right now, City looks inconsistent and we look sh*t.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True we need to put in the wins to create pressure

Mamardashvili, Robertson, Van Dijk, Konate, Bradley, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Gakpo, Salah, Ekitike.

Subs: Woodman, Pecsi, Gomez, Kerkez, Endo, Nyoni, Wirtz, Chiesa, Ngumoha.

posted 3 days, 20 hours ago

That midfield 3 should give us enough numbers in the middle of the pitch to compete.

posted 3 days, 20 hours ago

Better lineup, I’d have Wirtz over Gakpo but as long as Slot is here Gakpo will always start. At Anfield I can kinda live with it anyway

posted 3 days, 17 hours ago

That's the midfield combination I want to see in the next few games. It gives us a much better balance when we don't have the ball.

Dom V Arda is gonna be tasty on Tues

Massively improved performance tonight. Biggest thing for me was the pressing we were doing. The players seemed much more motivated than they have recently. Tackling, chasing, winning 50/50’s etc.
much better!
Also patches of very nice one and two touch passing& movement

Just realised I have posted two comments in the earlier match thread, instead of here. Oh well, I’m drunk.

Oh I see Fickle Fred has struck again. Ten games into the season and it’s done. Five games later it changes and all of a sudden it’s done some other way. Will he ever learn?

Loads of the season left. Arsenal will draw some games at some point being too pragmatic. Liverpool obviously need to go on a bit of a run to take advantage of that.

Look we need to forget about arsenal the now. Facts are theyre miles ahead of the rest at present and until they show signs of weakness the rest are playing for 2nd

For me we need to focus on building on today and gettin some cohesion. If we can do that theres no reason we cant have a run at the champs league this year. We have the quality to win that. Slot just needs to mould it. People forget this time last year psg were a fackin mess. By end of the seaosn they were the best thing since slice bread.

Fickle Fred because I share an opinion with 90% of the thread that the title is done? Arsenal look very good and deserve a lot of credit, they will coast to the title.

Tbf, you do this all the time and it rarely pans out the way you say it does. You seem to pick the worst case scenario for Liverpool and then run with it. They’re very strong favourites for sure, but the way they play a lot of their wins could easily turn into draws. They’re so reliant on set pieces and teams could find ways to stifle it as the season goes on.

Arsenal are as good as they’re going to get at the moment, we’ve got a massive ceiling for improvement. If I thought the way you did, I probably wouldn’t bother watching any football, it would be impossible to enjoy it.

Here he is, moral arbiter of society

No I think much the way we coasted to the league with basically no challengers this year is what will happen with Arsenal. Their defence looks extraordinary but their attack has not remotely hit the heights it could this year.

Saying this is “as good as they’re going to get” is just simply a silly thing to say. They’ve a lot to improve on. But when your defence is as good as theirs, they’ve been able to get by.

Whereas we are struggling to deal with simple caveman football, as much as the shoots of recovery were very obvious last night we still have a long way to go to be considered remotely solid enough to pick up title contending form. City don’t have enough this year and who else is there?!

I’m curious how that fits in with me not being a defeatist and wanting to enjoy supporting my team, whilst stating that you’re basically a doom merchant who would rather be positive about any team apart from the one you support?

Reckon it’s some kind of posh boy insult, but I’m not really getting it, sorry.

The reason I say Arsenal are as good as they’re going to get, is can you honestly see Arteta taking the handbrake off and letting his team really express themselves and play truly attacking football? There is nothing whatsoever to suggest this could happen.

In a team with Eze, Saka, Odegaard etc, there is too much attacking talent for them to be playing the way they are. They’ve shown it in flashes.

Let's see how Arteta handles the pressure once it starts heating up for real

posted 3 days, 6 hours ago

They are comfy at the moment knowing we play City next but after that we can ramp up the pressure

posted 3 days, 6 hours ago

Unlikely, but a win against City would really have them sheeting their pants.

posted 3 days, 5 hours ago

We have a fairly tame run after City until we play Arsenal again in Jan.

Forest - H
West Ham - A
Sunderland - H
Leeds - A
Brighton - H
Spurs - A
Wolves - H
Fulham - A

Big if but if we can close the gap to 3/4 points by that Arsenal game they will feel the pressure

Villa did hit us with more long balls than they usually do and we did cope better with a proper midfield yesterday.

What I felt was happening yesterday was having Szob and Grav sitting deeper with Mac forward which is different to what we had last season. I thought that worked quite nicely.

I just enjoyed the fight, we won more battles than them and came out top on pretty much all, headers won, tackles, pressing etc. Some play was sloppy and wasteful, some had stinkers like Gakpo. But the team fought and fought for eachother and the shirt.

Helped that Emery did us a massive favour in how he set up and qpproached the game, this could just be another frankfurt 🤣. But much happier with.the effort regardless
