Glenn Hoddle would be a good shout, providing they stick to football
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Young players need motivational people around them, people they can aspire to be like.
They need people like Hoddle Beckham etc who can inspire them not insipid dinosaurs like Hodgson
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure about either Hoddle and certainly not sure about Beckham.

Hoddle has been out of the game for a while, and did you see his England team to play against Italy? He had Gerrard and Lampard in centre midfield.

Beckham has no experience, and from the way he talks I'd doubt his tactical nous or his ability to man manage.

I think we should get Neville in to sort out our defence, he speaks so much sense on the telly.

Oh wait....

No but I think PPLF was alluding to the fact they need players they've watched growing up are more motivational than dinosaurs.

Whether you agree with the particular players is a different matter, but the principal still stands IMO

I don't think Hoddle or Beckham are managerial prospects but they would be perfect to be part of a team to start bringing kids through with the right attitude

that are more motivational****

At first glance I thought you had put 'should we replace hodgson for the rest of the tournament

I was thinking that might be a tad harsh

definitely a tad harsh, and a tad optimistic

tad optimistic that we have any tournament left**

Do you think we're out Macca?

Italy to win 2 and England to win 1 game isn't that inconceivable

I knew really. I ed at the original joke melt. It was the "speaks so much sense on tele" bit that got me.

Without any doubt hodgson should be gone and is the classic case of a yes man rather than the right man.

On paper its a hard group in reality it should have been 7 points minimum. Wrong tactics even when we were 1-0 down we still sat back and tried to counter therefore letting uruguay control the game.

The sad part is rooney will be scapegoated (despite actually putting a shift in) and lazy steven gerrard or negative clueless hodgson will get off Scott free.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's the problem right there.....happy with a players game cos he 'put a shift in'.......Rooney was dreadful both games no composure in his finishing.....way ward passing.....and I'm sure Gerrard is getting hammered for his showing......

Gerrard must retire from international football for me.....game's pass him by.

We've managed to have a worse World Cup than the last one, and I never thought that was possible. On reflection, Hodgson made mistakes but I'm not sure he made any big telling mistakes that would have won us the games had he not made them. Ultimately, we have quite a poor selection of players (particularly the defence) to choose from, and they're about the best we could have gone for.

Hodgson decided England`s best chance was to play an over the hill Gerrard and a clearly out of his depth Henderson in a two man CM, that alone deserves Roy the sack.

Carrick or even Huddlestone would have done a better job in Gerrard`s role and Wilshire or Barkley instead of Henderson.

Maybe not Barkley, as he's not defensive minded enough yet, but I'd play Wilshere ahead of Hendo

----------------------------------------------------------------------He's played some youngsters fair play. But the sad truth is that is our worst performance at a World Cup in the 32 years I've been alive

I wish!

As I keep stating everywhere the fact that on paper it was a hard group (it was not in reality as proven by costa ricas progression) and the fact a few youngsters were played somehow masks hodgsons many many inadequacies.

'Arry would've done better I think

Probably going against his slightly defensive beliefs and throwing caution to the wind in terms of team selection and tactics. Maybe he got caught up in the hype surrounding the reasonably good season Liverpool have had and tried to play in a style closer to that rather than his own style. Trying to please everyone else rather than sticking to what he knows.
