You may not want to think football was about before the Prem started, but a lot of us do. Vardy does not hold the record for scoring in successive games in the top division in English football. He may do, but at the moment he doesn`t. Not that hard to grasp is it?

How do you get that from what he said?

HenrysCat

It's a premier league record, it's quite specifically announced and referred to as such.

Why? The premiership is only a new name for the old first division, like the League Cup has had several names, but it is still the league cup.

Oh Sandy, jumping in with both feet without looking first.

Pre-PL was a very good time in football for me, as an Arsenal fan thank you very much.

And no one has said Vardy holds the all time record in the top flight - he holds the record in PL history
Not hard to grasp, is it?

The comment either proves your age is nowhere near what you claim or you are stupid.

Probably both, tbh.

Even with that in mind, it's no different to having a record for say, the 90s or any other time frame - or any other competition come to that.

It's just a record defined by the premier league. No-one, anywhere is claiming otherwise - I don't get the anger. People defending against something that isn't happening.

It's almost like 22 clubs morphed into supersonic clubs in 1992 and the English football league was no longer worthy.

But of course promotion and relegation from two different competitions is somehow irrelevant when in actual fact it is still the same football leagues with 92 clubs.

Whereas generally people tend to focus more on alltime records, the premier league focuses more on its own records. That's not necessarily a bad thing but will mean that pre premier league records will be less known.

But not as stupid as you, who thinks football started with the prem. Go away you clown, football was being played over a hundred and 30 years before you were even born. Cretins like you just about sum up the modern game. Absolutely refuse to think anything happened in football. out of your 12 year old lifetime.

What is the difference between the Old first division becoming the premier league and say, the Carling cup becoming the Capital one cup? I admit I am no old timer really so that's a genuine question.

Maybe with new offisde laws, goalkeeper rules, squad sizes and subs used, squad numbers and names on shirts etc it's a whole different ball game.

The former is a new organisation taking control.
The latter is a change of sponsorship of a competition that remains under the same organisation.

Good question.

There is nothing to stop Capital One (whoever they are) from saying "this is a Capital One Cup record!" when someone scores the first goal. They can put it in all their press releases and stick it in the newspaper. It'll still be a record within the Capital One Cup. Most people won't care, Capital One will.

I like Henry Winter's description of Vardy being "..the talk of the tinseltown that is the Premier League..".

Very apt indeed.

Oh come on PM, you can't just copy and paste entire comment from your own thread on the same subject.

The Premier League took over from the Football league in running the top flight.
Wheres Capital 1 have nothing to do with organising the League Cup, nor did Carling. That is run by the Football League.
Just as the FA Cup is still an FA run competition and has not been run by Budweiser or the Emirates.

An example, as I stumbled across a couple of articles on the BBC Sport website.

The NBA's inaugural season was in 1946-47. Here's a couple of records that have been broken recently:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/basketball/34918642

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/basketball/34952596

The NBA, as a franchise, has gone through a number of changes over the years in terms of mergers, team additions, teams folding, team name changes etc but the records referred to include the achievements of all teams / players dating from it's inaugural season to the current one. They are all-time, regular season records.

On November 1, 1946, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the Toronto Huskies hosted the New York Knickerbockers at Maple Leaf Gardens, in a game the NBA now regards as the first played in its history.

The NBA recognises records from its original incarnation, the Basketball Association of America (BAA).

There are separate records pertaining to the NBA All-Star Game and post-season. Research the NBA All-Star Game records and NBA post-season records for information on these.

Why not???

Oh, ok, you can then.

Does the NBA count records pre 1946 though? That is not clear from this, you mention the BAA but not the National Basketball League that ran from 1937 to 1949 when it merged with the BAA
