We must be at the very least closing in on embargo which means Mel might have to gamble on going big and doing this summers business now as we'll be embargo'd come end of May. Unless we start selling some players.

The players we brought close season weren't Clement's choice as a result we had to spend 10 million on players that in my mind are more get you out of the Premier than stay in it material.

The players we have now don't seem to be able to offer us a lot of versatility, if they stop service to Martin and pin our full backs back, we're left with a defensive 4-3-3 and predictable attacking patterns.

Borough's formation had the flexibility to be tweaked a little and still be very good, they had the personnel to do it and weren't dependent on two players like we are Thorne and Martin.

I think the way we're set up with Martin might get us out of this league but don't think it'll keep us in the next one.

I think Mel's business plan is to buy us out of this league, I guess in the business world that makes sense in terms of the ridiculous money you get in the Premier, still think we've splashed the cash stupidly and had we been a bit more frugal we could have had some more options right now but hey ho.

Evans can take some fault for that, but as much as I hate the buying your position on a ladder approach to the game, if Mel wants us to get above and stay above this league in my mind we need either different personnel or patience to allow us to do this. Choose one.

Sounds like it's a done deal

Not a bad 'window' so far, bet Forest wouldn't mind it.

Yes, just heard it too. We are now favourites to sign him.

Who told Vidal? Does POTY give you direct access to the horses mouth?

posted on 5/1/16

It's been all over Twitter all day. Can't imagine Vidal is a twitterer though?...

There we are, I haven't got a Twitter account.

So who twitted it.

You don't need Twitter, Iwas, just google it and you can see the various references. Looks like Reading are playing at maximising their return, to me.

dcfcfans has been running a thread on it.
I read it there...

And when I say, to me, I mean that's what I think, and not that Reading owe me money - coz they don't. Well, not much anyway.

He's been involved in 46.7% of Reading's goals this season. A hefty chunk.

That was also on Twitter so must be true, fact.

I have sources, well one source who hears the occasional thing. On Sunday he told me we were closing in on Callum O'Dowda and he also said we were after Blackman. I think Blackman was one on a list for us but Wednesday's move has galvanised us into action. Other players may have been ahead of him who we may or may not be successful in signing, but if we don't get them and Blackman has already been sold we run the risk of getting none of our targets.

Blackman shouldn't upset many of us as he is relatively cheap and can serve as a back-up to Martin. Personally I still wish for a different sort of striker but it may be that we think that what we have should be good enough to get us promoted as long as we have a bit of back-up. The danger of splashing out now is if we don't go up and are stuck with a player who doesn't want to be here.

Although this doesn't read too well on a Reading blog

Nick 'nobody' Blackman is the striker we've paid the highest transfer fee for - wow. Brian McDermott did numerous truly great things for our football club in his years as a scout and later as manager. However, paying £1.2m for Nick Blackman in January 2013 wasn't his finest hour.

The fact that the most memorable thing he's done in a Reading shirt is to give it the big one to our travelling fans after scoring an immaterial goal away at Derby speaks volumes. I'm struggling to think of a more selfish Reading player than him since Nicky Forster - the only difference being I'd back Fozzy to finish his dinner, never mind bury the ball in the back of the net. I'm not so sure on Blackman. Neither was McDermott, nor Nigel Adkins - as both struggled to decide whether Blackman was a striker or a winger. For what it's worth, he was equally dull & ineffective in both positions.

So I'm really rather confused as to how on Earth he thinks he can comment and say he's got nothing to prove to anybody. Erm, excuse me? Not even Sir Les came out with such tripe in his disastrous, brief spell with us. So for this to come from someone like Nick Blackman is stunning. Any player saying that after last season should take a serious look in the mirror, let alone Blackman. What exactly has he achieved at Reading? No tears would be shed here should he be leaving us in the short, medium or long term future.

I suspect this is indicative of the selfish streak we've seen in his play and hopefully Clarke takes no prisoners and moves Blackman on; for his nature must be a disruptive force in the dressing room. In order for us to have the best possible chance of success in the forthcoming season, the only point to prove when it comes to Nick Blackman is that money clearly doesn't buy you success. I hope Clarke cashes in at the earliest opportunity.

They're talking about Lewis Walker, Des's other son now.
Do you know anything about him sph ?

I've seen a Youtube film of Blackman and he is a right winger who cuts inside and has a good shot on his left foot and can score some good goals.

He reminds me of someone but I can't for the life of me think who.
