You can check with Norway and Switzerland what they negotiated with the EU
That's what Boris and co are suggesting.
What are the key features of those agreements for access to the single market?
Why should the UK be given preferential treatment after it spat on the EU even though it already had preferential treatment?

Yes it does, since the UK is a service driven economy it needs to sell its services to a significant market at ts door step.
So, who is in the stronger position I ask again.

Again when 2 parties need each other, a deal will be made. Why would Merkel ignore german interests?

we are the single biggest export market for EU goods, almost 1 in 6 (by value) of all EU goods are sold to the UK.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I realise that the EU sells more goods to the UK than it does to the US (and far more than it does to China).
Yes, of course they are larger markets, but right now they are not more important markets. So the EU will negotiate a sensible deal with the UK because it cannot afford not to (whereas it could have afforded it with Norway for instance).
But I love the idea that this wonderful institution, being lauded for its concerns for workers rights, and ensuring the safety of tap water across the continent, is also being pushed as a body that will refuse to make a sensible trade deal with its single largest export market (which would cost millions of people across Europe their jobs), just to teach them a lesson.

i'd like to think the EU can tell the difference between a referendum and a unilateral decision of the UK government to exit the EU.
Because by "we have spat in their faces" you mean than 17m people have voted to exit the EU?
We will get the Norway deal, we already had a privileged position in the EU but we've spat in their faces.
.............
No we have not. We have decided that we do not want to be part of their Superstate.

If it is in their interest to be petty, I am sure they will be. If it isn't they will not be.
The stumbling block is the free movement of labour.
Why do they see this as so important to their Dream.

You realise the EU is currently in extensive negotiations with larger markets in the US and China, right?

We've done it to our own people, so it is possible

Ill happily admit im wrong if we get a terrible deal but the EU needs us

We will get the Norway deal, we already had a privileged position in the EU but we've spat in their faces.
Now, we all have linked economies but do not underestimate how petty leaders can be.

We will get a better deal than norway. How much better is the argument

i'd like to think the EU can tell the difference between a referendum and a unilateral decision of the UK government to exit the EU.
Because by "we have spat in their faces" you mean than 17m people have voted to exit the EU?

No we have not. We have decided that we do not want to be part of their Superstate.

If it is in their interest to be petty, I am sure they will be. If it isn't they will not be.

The stumbling block is the free movement of labour.
Why do they see this as so important to their Dream.
