The Independent states that four in ten voters want a second referendum after negotiations have been completed, and if the vote is against then we stay in the EU.

So 40% is actually less than voted to stay in, yet it's their leading story, and they've written it as if it's a landslide victory for remain.

Large aspects of Remain are clearly going to stop at nothing to get the result reversed. That will be the end of this country. Instead of merely shocking the rest of the world, they'll all be laughing at us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I do not have a problem with having another one myself, as long as we are offered something new from the EU.

If they made concessions on immigration - maybe a cap based on a formula made up of houses built, school places or the like - then I would have no problem with it as it is an issue, and probably would have made us vote Remain if addressed.

It would not change my vote, but I think it would sate the majority

That will level out though Melton will it not?

Genuine question, I am far from a politics expert.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, no. It means that the Bank of England will need to pump more money in (as they have done already) to keep the shares from going too low. It also means that the tax payer will have to subsidise them more.

We're in a slightly better position than we could have been due to the amount of reserve capital, but dividend payouts simply won't happen and there won't be the money to lend. That and pensions will take a hit.

The impact of it is more than just the asset value.

The world probably finds it more funny that a voting majority in the UK was completely conned by people so ashamed at what they've done to the country they've already done a political runner.

Tell me how many of those MPs will be associated with the leave campaign when people think of them.

In fact don't tell me, I'll tell you.

None.

They may have backed it but they weren't the faces of the campaign. The faces of the campaign were Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage.

Boris Johnson looks like he's aged 20 years from the guilt and Farage has gone off to take full advantage of the increases in corporate welfare that the piece of human slime George Osbourne has already mooted.

I can help but think that the vote leave result has had a good effect of engaging the youth in politics more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

To an extent I agree. It depends where they get their information from, as it does with anyone. The Internet, whilst allowing them access to more information than ever before, has also made it far more difficult to separate the fact from the fiction. One (incorrect) fact on social media can spread like wildfire and have a far greater influence than it should nowadays.

Nigel Farage is not even an MP.

What would he be expected to do right now as leader of UKIP (just one MP) that he could not anyway?

Should Boris have gone for it if he knew there would be a spiteful backlash against him from Tory remain MPs? To risk running a party like Corbyn is having to?

Lets see how the Leadership battle goes. We have one candidate who was 100% a Leaver. Boris may well get a senior position in either cabinet, whoever wins.

Until that is settled, we have no negotiations to run away from. When that time comes, then we can dissect

Without the internet or free press the genuine information may have not been accessible at all.

If the papers and news are run by people with an agenda (which they usually are) then you're only going to get biased/wrong information from them.

And that's where it depends what you read, I was talking more about social media though as newspaper circulation is at its lowest in years.

I always read the opposite of what I think in the papers, as it's the only way I personally can come to a proper opinion.

Yeah, I agree.

Leadsom has not run away though, as has been implied of everyone involved in Leave. She has put herself out there.

As I said, there are no negotiations to run from as yet. Once the new lady is in place, then we start down that route

I knew you would come back with bbbbbut.. Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage.

Not even MP's. They were the face of the leave campaign because BBC, ITV and Sky all believed that chucking Boris and Nigel in your face would put off Leave voters, when in fact it did the opposite. IDS and Gove were both as prominent but neither of those ran away.

Just because you didn't see them on TV getting off a bus doesn't mean they weren't campaigning locally, like all good MPs do.

Andrea Leadsome is now campaigning to be Prime Minister for Christ sake.

This idea that the Leavers have done a runner is complete bol|ocks.

Kind of off topic but I wish David Nuttall had done a runner. The guy's a fecking eejit.

Boris is an MP, though, not that Science explicitly said MPS were deserting.

So you don't think there's going to be a revised budget and more spending cuts as the UK ecomomy slumps? With a Tory gov in charge who are determined to give out even more in the way of corporate handouts, where is this extra money going to come from exactly?

Yes I do think there will be a revised budget, because clearly circumstances have changed. That does not confirm George Osbournes OTT pre-Brexit scaremongering anymore so than saying "well some of the money we spend on the EU will go to the NHS" when responding to the NHS 'promise' you enjoy referring to.

Nigel Farage is not even an MP.

-----------------
He wanted to be, but couldn't win his own seat.

Despite not being an MP he put himself central to the debate. He was vociferously anti-immigration that resonated with many leave voters.

But here's the thing, as you say, Farage is not an MP - why was he campaigning so hard for this, was it out of the goodness of his heart?

posted on 9/7/16

Why was anyone who's not an mp campaigning so hard for it?

The spending cuts that we're going to be done anyway, but can now be blamed on Brexit?
