At least they are trying to get to the truth here (I think!). The fact is that what they refer to as regulation becomes a legal requiement, which leave campaigners have called law. Personally I think if we have to do it, there is very little difference.

The EU has a huge impact on our country and if you deny this you are either a fool or deliberately pushing your agenda.

London has just elected a Muslim mayor by quite a large margin. That reflects the demographics and economic prosperity of London. You could argue that London has seen the greatest benefit of EU membership and has the most to lose with the risk to the city.

However London still voted 40% to leave.

Anyone asked why 'Remains' didn't win 80% of the London vote ?

posted on 12/7/16

Yes, it has a positive impact on the country as these regulations are a minimum requirement for quality and HSE for the most part.

If we vote 96% in favour of them, do you believe they are bad?

Positive for big business and the mega rich. Most SME owners were reported as wanted out due to the impact and cost on their businesses.

That;s not accurate, the implementation of regulations in big corporations costs more than in smaller businesses.

Where are you getting this guff from?

SMEs that do not like the EU would most likely hate the fact that they empower their workers and make it harder for them to sack them and provide quality duty of care in their employment contracts

Because of the theme running in this thread regarding anti-immigration and racist vote as the only reason why 'leave' won. London voters can't be tarred with the same brush.

Can you show me on this thread where that has been said?

London voted to remain, what point are you trying to make?

Are you suggesting there are no xenophobes in London

No, I did not say that.

You are trying to make some really daft arguments here.

First you brought in a Brit, Khan as an example of lord knows what

Then you have now said more than 80% should have voted to remain because Londoners are all non racists

It is most amusing.

People voted leave simply because they were lied to and uninformed.

Whether it was on sovereignty, immigration or the big bad EU.

They were given the wrong information.

The EU does not make our Laws
The EU does not decide our Parliament
The EU does not hold sway over our sovereignty

Anyone that voted based on those premises above was lied to.

But you didnt include the extra payment to bauil out Greece and prop up the euro
-----------
What are you waiting for then? Give us the figure. Broken down into those parts you've identified.

----------
The figure widely reported was £1.7 billion. The government said they had got out of paying it but later it came out that they had paid it on the quiet. I dont know exatly how or how much, maybe dressed up as other payments but we paid extra

Whenever people complain about regulations it makes me laugh.

I always ask, what is the spirit behind a regulation.

A product/service X must meet Specification Y before it can be given to consumer Z

Why would a consumer be upset about this? What do you stand to lose?

The results for the referendum were NOT based on first 'pass the post'.

If London had voted 80% to remain the overall result would have been a statistical tie or would have been close enough to call for a second referendum.

What I am saying is that different areas of the country had different reasons for voting for brexit. Not all are uninformed however much some of those who voted to remain try to paint them. What is more a lot of 'remain' voters ONLY voted to stay because they were fearful of the consequences of leaving, economically, and not for any love of the EU.

Leave won. And however much you try to justify your point of view. Its not going to change. We will get a renegotiation and a new relationship with the EU.

Everyone I know who voted leave did so because they want the UK parliament to be make our laws and be accountable to the British electorate who can vote them out if they do something the electorate dont like.

------------
Either you are very well acquaintances with your mirror, or you actually know a lot of idiots that do not know how the UK parliament works with the EU one.

I have a deluded hope it's the former.. as it means there aren't a lot of idiots..

==================

Leave won simply because people were duped into voting for it.

The fact they won does not mean we cannot continue to debate it.

I'm still wondering what Leave actually won?

Do you know?

I would like to know. What have you won?

That is incredibly insulting to those who voted to leave and extremely arrogant.

You have convinced yourself that you are right and that everyone loves the EU. So much so that its very difficult for you to come at this with an open mind. I have said this before in this thread I work everyday with SMEs. And trust me, most of them have to go through hoops because of EU regulations. Not all of them to protect worker rights. But if I give examples I will get insulted for being anecdotal.

But thats how it is. People vote because of experiences of their own life. Yes, some ppl are easily convinced by what politicians tell them on TV. However that is never enough to win such a majority with such a large turnout.
