Case in point.. when Vialli was made player/coach at Chelse, one of the first things he did was demand the respect of his fellow-former pros. One of the tactics he employed to do that was have everyone call him gaffer from day one.

Obviously he pushed it too far in the end by distancing himself too much from the players, but I guess that was due to him not wanting to be seen as favouring his friends.

Football really is a bit of a backwater when it comes to this boss gaffer stuff

Other than the military or the police where does it even still exist.

Even in big business you will probably be on first name terms to the Boss or even the bosses boss or CEO

You are judged on what you do.

Murty will be, or at least should be judged on results.

If tactics team selections etc are undermined because Kenny Miller calls him Murts then FFS that's mental.

Many footballers are mercenaries

Unlike “big business”, these are guys that get paid to keep fit and kick a ball about

Ever since the Bosman ruling, players have been given so much power it is unreal.

There are very few “workplaces” where one or two guys in the camp can completely upset the entire apple cart and get the guy at the top sacked if they want.....this can and does happen in football

To get these egotistical bastirts to play for you and to keep them in check, two things are needed:
1) money
2) respect

Footballers who aren’t getting paid enough or who don’t respect their manager that much, will either just go somewhere else to play or try and undermine the manager they have

To prevent that happening, it needs to be nipped in the bud straight away, and a strong character is needed in the hot seat

Just sounds like normal business life though.

For me, it’s very different

I’ve worked in places and heard others talk about so many instances where the problems clearly lie with the folk at the top, but they are somewhat untouchable and it’s the minions who take the flak and leave before the boss’s position ever gets threatened

Must say, Murty’s comment at his presser today are the best comments to come out of the club since McInnes turned the job down

Sad state of affairs when you trust your caretaker manager to handle the media better than the board ffs

I actually can't believe that I'm reading rangers fans comparing Walter and murty. Ffs...that's desperate.

I understand that Walter hadn't formally held a manager's job before he did at Ibrox...that's the only comparison.

I always liked Walter and I actually think this is an insult to a living legend.

Tone it down lads.

I think everyone will have worked there

Normally the 'minion' will not have a clue about what is going on further up the ladder.

Tea break moan about the bosses...

Curly always calls it as he sees it. Doesn't judge a poster by the colour of his scarf.

Of course he hates Tims but he doesn't let that get in the road.
