But no matter how difficult the task surely the board are employed to do their utmost to get the very best they can with the resources they have?
---------------------------------------------------

So who would you put on the managers shortlist at Rangers Ginger?

I think whoever Rangers went for it would be really easy to criticise.

Silva is one option - he did OK at Hull but they got relegated. He was punted from Watford after a decent start. So whilst he is clearly more experienced than Gerrard his record is just 'no bad'.

Plus he may have been on £20k a week at Watford but if Everton were willing to pay a large release fee for him he would have went for 3 or 4 times that weekly wage.

So even if we take Silva as one option - we would need a few more names for a short list.

I am genuinely interested on who people think these experienced managers are.

Because I genuinely cannot think of an outstanding candidate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No I can’t either to be honest but then again I’m not on the board of Rangers. They hire people like Allen to do this kind of thing don’t they? Didn’t he state he had a list of credible candidates last time? Wasn’t there a clamour of big names putting themselves forward?

Yes I know. Paper talk.

Regardless it’s their job to get the appointment right and it’s pretty irrelevant as to how difficult that is. It’s their job.

Unless of course Gerrard is the best they can get.

++++

You are not on the board

I thought you had to be with all these exclusives you give us

At least our board are correct sometimes though 😀

I’d be more right than them if I was 😂

Silva was the boards preferred option back in 2015 (if we had gotten promotion)

Obviously we didn't and since then we've had a multitude of incompetents in the hotseat, cumulating in that ridiculous appointment of an egotistical priq of a youth coach.

Gerrard will need to be a master stroke of a gamble to take if this board are to gain any credibility, imo.

Marco Silva would have been my choice.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Is that the boy sacked by Watford that Everton were going to pay like £8m for?

He would be well out of our price range I would say.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
he is out of a job now so no compo to pay. He was on about 20k a week at Watford. He has all the credentials required IMO.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Premiership Manager on 20k a week? Sceptical about that one tbh.

it was either 10 or 'more than 12'

One was the number of top-class managers applying for the job and the other was the number of world-leading sportswear companies queuing up to make the jerseys.

Would have been worth asking Silva at least but he was looking for an exit at Watford the second Everton were interested he'd be less loyal in Scotland.

Gerard hasn't even been appointed and you are calling him a priq already. Give the boy a chance.

All this is taken away from the current interim managers and what they may bring.

My mate just told me that the players have been advised of the routine by Jimmy Nichol and Jimmy Bell:

10am - Shooting practice

1pm - band practice.

The point is it is really easy to criticise Rangers and their pursuit of Gerrard.

Yet people cannot give a credible alternative. People cannot seem to be able to name this 'experienced manager' who a) might be available b) would accept the job and c) we can afford.

I think criticising us for going for Gerrard if there were numerous better options out there would be fair game.

But no-one seems to be able to come up with an alternative so it just makes you less imaginative than the board you are criticising.

I don't really fancy Gerrard for the job - but I wont criticise them for going for him because I have no idea who I would appoint in reality.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a concern that you don't expect your board to be more capable of identifying and securing a manager than a bunch of randomers on the Internet.

I've only read the first page of comments so apologies if this has been said, but I want to pick up on Smids points regarding the different positions on Cathro and Gerrard.

You're comparing apples and pears.

Cathro at his appointment had been coaching for almost a decade and had been assistant manager at Rio Ave, Valencia and Newcastle, working directly with outstanding coaches and picking their brains on various tactical scenarios.

Gerrard has spent more time in the BT studio than he has in the dugout with Liverpool u18s since he stopped playing.

Leaving aside the different situations both clubs found themselves in (and Hearts were far more stable with a clear structure in place), the two coaches had vastly different levels of experience in coaching upon their (likely) appointments.

I thought folk mentioned Silva as a credible alternative? Or what about that guy Bielsa? He’s highly thought of.

There’s 2.
