Dumb comments

I listened to his comments and I don't remember him mentioning any player's colour. Are you 100% sure he said this?

Ramage last seen drinking in the same bar as Ron Atkinson.

Radio Derby have since removed it from the podcast. I don’t think it was the programme that runs until 6 o’clock but in the podcast that they do that is online only.

I have a tiny bit of sympathy in as much as his comments probably stem from stupidity and ignorance rather than racism as such, but such a casually offensive comment can’t be tolerated. As a pundit you haven’t exactly got a tough job: waffle on a bit about the footy, and don’t swear or make offensive comments. He’s not very good at the first of those anyway - maybe the occasional insight in and amongst the cliches and malapropisms - and now he’s broken the golden rule of broadcasting.

The language of Ramage was just a milder form of the deep south slur about uppity "N word"s, not knowing their place.

Needs pulling down a peg or two, or lynching as it was known in Mississippi.

Ramage probably wouldn't either notice or acknowledge this but Lowe certainly noticed.

Vida, I've got to agree with you, his comments were very ignorant. I hope he realises his mistake & makes him a better person for it & those who were offended can forgive him.

I have heard his comment and it was very wrong. I feel sorry for him because he had been talking for 4 hours, was furious with Bogle and miss spoke.

Some players at the club have done far worse and are still in employment. I have enjoyed listening to Ramage, he tells it like it is, I hate it when some pundits say “the lad will be disappointed with that” type stuff.

Pity when one mistake costs you your low paid job. But just to reiterate, it was wrong to say what he said.

posted on 17/2/20

The cheek is in his apology "this is a mistake and does not represent my personal views".

Sorry what? That's exactly what it is, your personal views. Its not a mistake, you didn't knock over a glass or spill some paint, you let your guard slip for a moment and said what you think on radio and are now facked.

Country is full of people like Ramage who are subconsciously racist, biased and don't realise thr damage they say

Do you make these comments because you lack imagination? Have you read what Lowe said about them, and he was thinking along the same lines. I know English isn't your strong point and you find metaphor difficult. I am not saying that Ramage wants to lynch black people but the sort of language Ramage used was reminiscent of the language used by racists in the deep south of the USA, and the way they pulled black people down a peg or two was by lynching them to keep the others in their place.

In the 1950s, the period which Trump thought was when the US was "great", a black man could be lynched for looking at a white woman. It was the "way they acted" and "their body language and their stance" which would mark them out as needing to be brought down a peg or two.

Now I suggest you go and read a bit of history and see what I mean.

It's just a comment on how people are feeling more entitled to be open on their views on anything in our post brexit world.

A freedom of speech court case recent upheld a chaps right to publicly take the mickey out of transgender people the other day.

It a proper shot in the arm for the middle aged, racist, intolerant, white man. More than a few have probably fist pumped Craigs comments.

This is all the media's fault by the way.

Racial stereotyping puts views in peoples head about a certain group.

Blacks = knife crime and drug dealing

Muslims= suicide bombers and by a lookalike link everyone from the indian subcontinent regardless of religion is a suspect.

Eastern Europeans= dole grabbing free-loaders.

The list goes on and it is not helpful.

The press really do need to start reporting that the vast majority of people are law abiding people who love their mums and just want a quiet life.

But where's the headline in that?

As I see it Craig Ramage has never had the tightest control over what he says and how he says it. This time it does betray a (maybe) subconscious view of certain players. He will be missed because of the lively insight from a players standpoint but I can see why he has to go. Recently, we had a stand-in when he was on holiday. I can't remember his name but he was an ex- Derby County goalie I think. He did a good job. So Farewell Craig Ramage - you only have yourself to Balme.

Reminds me of the Glenn Hoddle view of the disabled. Everyone thought Glenn a nice chap but then he lets his guard down in an interview and out pour his true thoughts.
