BAME footballers fear of covid

Anne, Sizzle not getting thinks is pretty common.

It’s hard to know what the agenda is, to be honest. It’s worth further research and discussion, however. If there aren’t any genetically deciding factor, which as far as I’m aware there aren’t, it really brings into focus how the socioeconomics of the country are impacting the health of bame.

Seriously though I think the numbers are higher because of the types of jobs the BAME tend to do, transport workers, NHS and care workers are traditiona jobs, plus supermarket and other low paid jobs, plus we are more likely to live in a multi generational household, don’t know about genetics but think we are more susceptible to underlying health issues like diabetes.

This is going to be a little controversial, but is mainly US focused, but Culture is a big part as well. It’s obscene the amount of parties you see in ‘hood’ communities, or street gatherings, or this one story in Baltimore or a barber going around peoples houses and infecting/killing loads including himself . Admittedly that is also all driven by socioeconomic issues too.

@Joe @Sizzle

Yes exactly, agree with both your points and think we all in agreement here. It just annoys me when those headlines are created and then leads to more fear mongering etc and even players choosing not to train which is only going to further scare BAME people.

Anyway lets see what happens

Anne, yeah I understand that. Though it remains to be seen how many will be put off playing football due to that.

With Kante, for example, I understand that he has some health conditions that are making him coy. His brother also died of a heart attack not long ago, so he’s understandably fearful that he may have some underlying problems that corona could exasperate.

If BAME players are not comfortable going in for training then that should be respected.

Its just another reason why this ridiculous (lets keep Liverpool happy) restart should not be happening.

Not at all its more of a culture of pick and choose what rules Brits want to follow. Every German footballer followed the football return rules and it is going well so far.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yes, but Germany got it right in the 1st place, a lot less infected and death's.

I'm sure we would all feel safer if we had those figures instead of ours.

But in answer of what to do, the guidelines are there: If you cannot work from home, from the 12th May you should be going to work. Footballers cannot work from home so should therefore be at work. If you don't want to work, you can take unpaid leave.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No your wrong, its go to wok if its safe to do so.

No one should be made to return to work if they do not feel safe.

Make sure you know the rules before you quote them.

It is safe to do training with social distancing in effect, which is what they have been doing so far.

Thats a far too well reasoned argument for Lpool fans.

They just want it back on under any stupid circumstances and refuse to accept the extent to which the integrity of this season has been destroyed.

With the news that Deeney and Kante do not want to train, what's everybody's thoughts on this statistic that BAME people are 4.2x more likely to die from coronavirus than white people?

Personally I am completely against these types of "statistics" because it doesn't seem to have any medical or scientific backing and therefore when the headlines are created IMO it only serves to scare those of the BAME community which we are already seeing with players
----
So long as facts are not misrepresented you should be OK even with this issue.

BAME people are more affected than white people. There are other races less impacted than white people as well and the least affected are mixed race people.

It is backed by sound science. Some people think that diseases do not discriminate but they do. There is a wikipedia article called "Inequality in disease" that explains this well.

For instance, West African men in West Africa have less propensity to hypertension than white folk and less likely to develop chronic heart problems. But if you take that West African man and take him to the USA, his propensity for hypertension shoots up and overtakes that of a white man and the likelihood of chronic heart problems increases a great deal.

Asian folk are more probe to diabetes and the likes in the west than in their homelands, also with an increased risk that if they do develop diabetes, its more likely to be chronic.

Humans are animals. Take them out of their habitat and you never know. We seem to assume humans can move anywhere into the world without creating health issues. That's seems to be something we've ignored.

So it's completely scientific but sensitive too because its hard to escape the racial connotations.

Just because your pathetic team is too sheit to have anything to play for and is thus desperate to pretend 80% of the season never happened, doesnt mean everyone else is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Again standard whataboutery response.

Never mind whats right and wrong it must be a Spurs thing.

Dear fellow black folk.

We are FOUR times more likely to die of this than our white counterparts, that’s the only stat you need to know.

Stay at home.
Stay away from the rest of the population.
Do not listen to “advice” from any of these people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
🤣🤣🤣
You clearly haven't got a critical thinking bone in your body
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I’m certainly not going to listen to advice from people who don't give a f*ck if we live or die.

Ie everyone in Government and the majority of the population.

M’kay.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow, now it’s the general population victimising poor old Sizzle. Get over yourself.
