So the biggest club in this country have 6 league titles and 0 European cups to their name, is that what we’re saying?

However, KPMG make clear their figures were compiled five months ago on January 1 and do not include the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has hit every football club. Next year's valuations will take this impact into account.

They've also not included the fact that Liverpool have failed dismally in every cup competition this season.

Yes because I don't live in 1980, I live in 2020.

Which club has Pep Guardiola? Which club has some of the richest owners in the football world? Which club has global superstars like Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero? Which club has won almost every domestic trophy in the last three years? Which club in England do players most want to join?

It's Man City, and that's why the biggest club in England at this moment in time.

But they are not the biggest club for footballing reasons and never have been in my lifetime. In terms of PL clubs that is the preserve of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd.

City have a less successful history than Liverpool, but they surpassed Liverpool in size when they won the league in 2012. Since then they've grown bigger, more so when Guardiola came, whilst Liverpool have been catching up over the last two seasons but are still below City in size.

My definition of size is a combination of money, current success, current recognisable star players/managers at the club, number of fans and history. It's not just history, history is only a minor part of the size of a club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

right. ok. yep city are richer.
city 1 - 0 Liverpool

but other than that..

current success:
city: current premier league winners and some
domestic cups.
Liverpool: current European champions league winners, European super cup winners, World club cup winners. soon to take city's place as premier league winners.

city 1 - 1 Liverpool

recognisable star players / managers.
both very recognisable, top drawer managers.
city 2 - 2 Liverpool
both very recognisable, top drawer players.
city arguably more of them. Liverpool arguably better ones, and by that I mean more likely to be included in a world 11. eg really top drawer de bruyne, aguero, ederson, silva (2), jesus, fernandino, sterling, Alisson, mane, salah, van dijk, TAA, firmino

city 3 - 3 Liverpool

number of fans : no contest

city 3 - 4 Liverpool

history : you're not even a late entrant into the race
city 3 - 5 Liverpool

so there you are, even by your own definitions, Liverpool > man city.

posted on 28/5/20

I just explained why they're the biggest.

posted on 28/5/20

Richer City 1-0 Liverpool
current success City 2-0 Liverpool (Over the last 3 years City have dominated England and won nearly every domestic trophy available)
Recognisable stars City 3-0 Liverpool
Guardiola > Klopp, Liverpool's only recongisable star is Van Dijk and De Bruyne is more of a star than him, as is Aguero.
Number of fans: Dunno who wins that so still city 3-0 Liverpool
History: consolation goal for Liverpool in the least important category City 3-1 Liverpool.

you're criteria was recognisable star managers. not whose greatest.
you can't reliably state one or the other are bigger stars. it can be argued that Klopp is more recognisable. i'm sure more non-football people would recognise him than Guardiola.
I gave it a draw, which is more than fair, since by your original definition I could pick Klopp as the winner.

you can't just pick an arbitrary time period for current success. it's either right now or it isn't. if it isn't then you should include everything. either way Liverpool > city.

Alisson not recognisable? firmino? mane? salah? who time magazine picked as one of the most influential people of the year? now we really do know you just don't have any sort of grip on reality at all.
the only city stars i'd say have a really good shot at getting into a world 11 team, are de bruyne, aguero, and sterling. Liverpool : Alisson, van dijk, mane, salah, TAA, even Robertson on current form. the other city players I mentioned along with the other Liverpool players, have good odds on being included in world 11 squad, but I don't think would make the first 11.

so again, I made it a draw, being fair and objective, it could easily have gone liverpools way.

number of fans: you're going to just ignore it because you don't know the answer, or more likely, because you know it's another point you can't possibly win. I don't know the current numbers, the figures I've seen from a 2015 study put man city at 87M fans worldwide, at that time, Liverpool had 580M. you've added more, we've added more, but there's no way you've made any significant dent in that difference.

now pull your head out of your arris and at least make an attempt to be objective.

I don't live in the 1980s, I don't care who won what back then and who was the biggest club back then.

I care about the here and now. And in this moment City are a bigger club than Liverpool and are the biggest club in this country.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In the here and now Liverpool are miles ahead of City as the league stands and are currently the holders on the European and World Championships.

1. based on just having a more recognisable face.
hmm. wasn't recognisable your original criteria?.
yes it was, and since you clearly want objectivity to get thrown out, we'll make it city 2 - 5 Liverpool.

2. no. I didn't, you did. why 3 years? why not 6 months, 5years, 10, 20, 50, 100?. it's either right now. where city hold the premier league, and some domestic cups, and we hold the world club cup, CL cup, and European super cup. or it's all of the clubs history, where we still have lots more trophies than you.

3. the only sensible response to that, really, is: you twa__ t.
