What I don’t get about this ‘democratic process’ when removing statues is - if minorities are (rightly) offended by slavers being paraded above them as a statue, surely in more cases than not the majority will vote to keep the statues up.
But will the majority be right? Should black people have to see offensive statues just because the majority of a country were too ignorant to vote to get them down?

Isnt racism a stupid thing, racists should have dna tests and learn about their lineage lol
Not sure we should be hiding our history, but at the same time we shouldn't be revering the bad parts of it either. How poorly educated this country is, thats worrying and probably the main reason these petitions to remove statues fail. Lack of respect on both sides, theyre not respecting democracy or the law doing what they do to statues etc. But then again everyones pro democracy until they lose the vote as seen with Brexit.

In my view, there's a higher degree of racism and violence in football groups than society as a whole, which i why I think there's a connection.
You can disagree all you like, but I live in North London and I see it, very clearly amongst the Spurs fans.

From what I can see the people who will go defend these statues seem to think British history was the crusades and the world wars and not much else.

You can't just go around tearing statues down and expect no reaction to such provocation. The football lads alliance or whatever they are called are stupid as hell, but the statue vandals reap what they sow, they are simply receiving an equal and opposite backlash.
