8k (quite hilly) 46.03

well happy with that.
my best ever time 2 years ago was 39.45, but I was doing 8k quite regularly last year and I think 46.03 would have been one of my best times last year.

It's also one of the very few times (since I started running again in my 40s) that I've done 8k without taking a breather, not even at the turnaround point.

I probably won't be able to move for 3 or 4 days or jog again for a week, but it was also RELATIVELY easy. I wasn't gagging for air, gagging to stop at some point as I normally am.

Good effort.

slightly annoying!

faster pace than that today over 8k (that one was 5k).
pleased with that improvement. no doubt a lot of it is due to losing weight. i'm probably not far off a stone lighter than I was then. getting on for it anyway. so much easier when you aren't carting a dead weight around.

so turns out im dominant on the balls of my feet and my physio told me to start using my heels, although this isn't normally the best way to run, it should even out so I use my whole foot when planting.

I tried this method and done a 26min 30 5k on saturday.

I'm pretty confident now I can trim down those extra 20 seconds per km and get down to 25 mins.

good stuff. you'll be under 25 in no time if you can just keep running injury free

i got told to these tedious stretches against the wall for my calves which are tight af apparently

I have just walked 10 miles today. Just under 4 hours. Not bad for a 75 year old.

that is also exceptional.
i would struggle to walk 10 miles I must say, and I'm a whisker shy of 50.
well done.

Been doing much the same and more since my mid 20s. So find it pretty easy now. Although these days I am more a fair weather rambler.

My hamstrings are still very stiff after my run yesterday.
Weather here is looking good friday and saturday. Saturday more likely for me for a final run in a bit of sunshine for the year.

posted on 4/10/24

my hamstrings are absolutely dead today.
like all the bounce has been taken from them.
one of the difficulties when getting older. recovery time is just atrocious.

posted on 4/10/24

Hoping to get another run in tomorrow hamstrings permitting

hamstrings were dead. needed at least 1 more day rest.

set out to do 8k, stopped after 5 (28.50).

hobbled the last 3k home.

probably take 4 days this time hopefully will be good to go. no injury at least so that's good.

8k (hilly) 45.27

legs felt alright. surprised. i had slight indigestion though and semi hurled at the finish line.

went out much quicker but came back slower with several breads.

turned at 4.2k in 22.15
5k in 27.22
8k 45.27

had a 15s break at 4.2
20s at 5
then: c15,15,15 on the way back (all included in the time).

My ideal targets I would like to beat this year (or ever in the future, but if it doesn't happen this year...):

3k 14.29
PB this year 14.53

5k 24.59
(tried last year and was 8 seconds off. would be my best time for 2 years) PB this year 27.22.

8k 43.59
(would be my best time for 2 years) PB this year 45.27.

posted on 8/10/24

that 45.27 is actually faster than any time I did last year from the look of it.
again no doubt weight is a significant factor in that.
