I touched on it with our youth appointments last week and while they aren't a major issue it was more to point out the sheer laziness of them when it comes to the football side of things.

wasn't ange appointed based on mark lawwells recommendation?

Lennon was just there he will do, this time round "i'll give brendan a call"

ever heard the story of how strachan got the gig?

for two seasons i got to be happy with celtic.

Wednesday night will be toxic in the stands if we don't come out and play good football and win
----------------------------------------------------------------------

won't matter mate. might get a few people who are still convinced he's "elite" a smug smile if we win.

Long term it will always be this way, he had had the same tactic for about a decade.

Celtic should still win the league, they've lost the momentum they had under Pogdycoglu but their squad is miles better.

We are just so short on quality all over the pitch and we've got loads of injuries.

I'd be content to be within 6 points after the next Old Firm and hope Phil can find some magic in the window.

An average side will win the league but we need Celtic to collapse late on, too soon and they will be able to recover by sacking Brent. He's the biggest problem they have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Was feeling confident we could still win the league till Danilo and Lawrence injuries. Then suspensions and injuries mounting up ahead of a hectic few weeks generally.

Well both drop more points, but without their quality not confident we can get better of Celtic at end of month.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We are completely done if we lose Sima so fingers crossed he stays fit for then next few weeks. He is still very rough around the edges but he has unquestionable attributes and is delivering.

Dessers did a couple of things that were slightly less terrible than normal at the weekend but he is still clueless.

So unless Roofe suddenly puts together a run of games and form we will still carry limited goal threat.

Ah well - at least this season might be a bot more interesting than some that have gone before.

Celtic will get players back from injury and will spend in january.

We will deffo bring in a few, possibly loans but if Clement can get the right ones in it might give us a boost in the areas we are pretty desperate.

It certainly looks like plenty more points will be dropped compared to recent seasons.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Seen a few people talking about Celtic spending in Jan to maybe go up a gear.

Entirely possible but we know January isn't a great window for getting players in. Also Celtic have no Euro football until next season so there's not perhaps the same incentive for someone to move in Jan rather than summer. And regardless of how much money you have Scottish football has its limitations in attracting players. Plus they spent in the summer and it hasn't really played out that way.

I think the biggest gear change for either club could be a really good loan signing or two from somewhere. I'm struggling to think of the last January window that really made a difference to a title race - maybe a couple of years ago when Maeda and Hatate came in but slightly unusual in that they came in from a relatively obscure market known by the Manager from his time working there. Outside that I can't think of many seasons where a team has pulled away after a great January window.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Along with O'Riley that Jan '22 - rat's juice n'at
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah that's the only one I can think of where maybe the league took a big shift in that window.

It's possible but I'm not sure there are an abundance of quality players either team could get in Jan.

I don't even think Danilo is good. Our summer business was so incredibly bad that we've got fans on twitter talking themselves into saying Sima is amazing and we should pay 7m for him.

He's very similar to Sakala imo. Doesn't really know what he's doing but he's a menace because he's quick and direct.

A reliable finisher in January. Shankland if he was to hit the ground running could put us in the mix and if not he's a decent back up for a couple of years.

Still got a big hole in midfield but that can be hidden better than toothless centre forwards.

No doubt those players are big misses but domestically before Celtic we have:

Aberdeen
St Johnstone
Motherwell
Ross County

We have had a difficult run of games and this week will be a stretch but after that we just need to find an 11 game to game who can be better than these teams.

Cup finals take care of themselves and then at home to St J and Ross County we should be able to get over the line even without a full squad. We just need to tick the games off until the OF and then whatever happens in that game it guarantees we will still be in contention post winter break.

Bit harsh on Sima. He has 14 goals from left wing and we're not even midway through the season. The most Kent ever scored in one season was 13 and Sakala 12.

He has plenty in his game to work on but give me a left winger who scores 20+ a season any day of the week and is clinical over one who can run with the ball for 50 yards and give it away or one who could run his own series of what happens next any time he is 6 yards from goal.

Shankland will almost certainly score against us next weekend and, if Phillips plays, he'll probably get a hat trick.

Could be a brilliant weekend for Rangers fans....or an absolute disaster.

I’m not convinced by Danilo either, but he’s still a massive miss when it means Dessers is our option.

Also disagree on Sima, he’s been excellent bar first few games. Very good finisher, good in the air, great pace and strong defensively, even when played lwb. He’s 22, and I’d pay 7m for him. Technically Kent was better, but Sima has everything to be a really good player for us a threat in the league and Europe, and young enough to improve further. Goal comparisons with Kent and Sakala paint the picture.

7m really doesn’t go far these days - just have to look at the jokers we’ve spent money on in summer at an age and level who have no resale value. Celtic’s recruitment also shows how much of a gamble players in our price range are.

I think £7m is excessive for our league and certainly well outside our remit just now financially.

But if there was a deal to be done and we could afford it around £4m I think its worth doing absolutely.

Think the age is a great point, at 22 he's still very much making his way in the game. He has a great attitude, puts a shift in wherever you ask, is a brilliant athlete and has an end product. Given he had a bit of a rough start I think 14 goals by mid December is a fantastic return.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Disagree on 7m. Would rather we sign two quality players who we could have more trust in for 6/7m rather than four players for 3m. Transfer fees are an investment, and would rather gamble on free transfers and players similar to Sima on loan.

The wages we currently pay are the issue. They are excessive. A bloated squad due to injuries, duds and paying over odds to get players to move here.

Will Shankland fit in to the way Clement is trying to play.

He is an excellent finisher but has a distinct lack of pace, as he had a few yards on Lundstram last game and big john caught him 😀

Maybe with pace around him in sima or matondo Clement will want him to play around the box but cannot see it.

So all round is Shankland the answer, well if Dessers is the question yes, but would prefer the lad from Aberdeen but looks like he heading to celtic Park

Yeah I agree but we don't have those kinds of funds. I just don't see that getting two players at £6/7m is realistic. I'm not saying that means we get several at £3m because I think if we're being optimistic we probably spend max £5m in Jan.

We did decent business at little outlay last Jan with Cantwell and Raskin coming out of contract and I think we will be looking at the same again or a loan to tide us through to summer.

Danny Armstrong is another one in the league, may be worth a punt especially with us needing wingers.

Heard he was good yesterday and he had a cracking game against us a while back.

Miovski to Celtic is that what they are saying? He's decent enough. Better than that Oh

Summer is different, yes would like to see if we could get Sima in on a perm then.

Agree on principle of a couple of quality players rather than several at "cut price" but at the same time I think we need to strengthen too many areas to rely on that.

We will need at least one centre back, a left back, a midfielder, a couple of wingers and a striker at first team quality standard. So I think there will have to be some smart recruitment and wheeling and dealing.

Its possible though. If you look at what we spent on Cantwell, Raskin and Butland we have done very well - I don't think they cost £1m combined and are 3 of our better players. Butland in particular is arguably far too good for this level.
