As an engineer, it makes .e a bit sick to my stomach how much more my role gets paid in the US. But working conditions are supposed to be worse. Longer hours, crappy work benefits, longer travel times etc.

Yeah I know a lot of people who work for American companies and apparently they find it a nightmare to setup in countries where workers have rights and are protected by laws etc. Then when they do speak to their American counterparts they have pretty bum deal

Is it a similar payoff to the West coast in that stuff's expensive but the quality of life is good due to the place and culture or are people depressed about the cost of living?

Not necessarily true, very company dependent. Basically as the regs are so low it means there is a lot of variance, I work for a British company over here so it’s not too dissimilar than the U.K. I get paid a lot more but the cost of living is so high.
Gas and electric is like $250/month for example

Is that a lot compared to the UK? Been lots of price hikes
posted 8 hours, 59 minutes ago
Yes it is, expensive in the UK but that’s still like 2x+ more
Another example is my property taxes are around $7k a year which is like 10 times what most people I know have. Car insurance is like 260 a month etc etc
