Im generally talking Downtown, Fairview, Kits, East Van for where id hang out
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I live in Kits so exactly the same places I'd hangout. East Van less so
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We would usually go to Kings Head on Yew, they have some good deals there too

Honestly if you know where the happy hours are there's a lot of places you can do that. My local i can get a beer and burger for $9
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Right but this works for any city basically too
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah and I used to think it was more expensive to drink here and I think it was when I moved here, but I ended up spending more on a night out in Basingstoke than I have in Vancouver in probably a year. Facking Basingstoke.
Everyone was miserable everywhere we went too

Yeah Kings Head still do their lager for $5 a 'pint' on HH but they have quite a long HH
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
You know i grew up in Winchester area. I dont think i have ever gone on a proper night out in Basingstoke

Went for a pretty bog standard Indian for the two of us, one drink each, we're not big eaters. £60 or $111 cad. That's madness. You're eating well at a nice place in Victoria for that

Didn't know that! Love Winchester for a sunny day session before getting the last train home, nice area. I actually played a few games for Winchester City.
Yeah it is good. They've got a little patio out front too now - I dunno if that's new but a lot popped up during Covid to keep outside and they just stayed. I was living in East Van back then so wasn't very familiar with Kits.

Yeah I did one where the meal deal thing was £16 each then £8 pints. Ended up spending a lot for a meal i ate half of, really stupid. Need to stop just doing things cos everyone else is

Tbf we really didn't need all those poppadums but what's a man supposed to do?? When in England..
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
If theres still decent BYOB spots in London id go there
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
Yeah we also got brought out poppadums and dip without being asked for any, then got charged a lot for both indivually. Fun times.
Blarms, not surprised you never made it out to Baso with the other options around. It used to be an alright if a bit trashy night, but much better places to go. Dead nowadays, sad really.

The sad bit about Basingstoke is Festival Place. Theres maybe half the units occupied now
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
Its the same as most commuter towns

posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
Yep where I'm from in England's a proper commuter town now. Paying London prices without any of the benefits. You've got a real disparity between the areas around town/the train station and the old estates. Also half the fackin pubs are shut now
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
I dont fully know how the pubs are surviving in my village when i go home but happy they are
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
Might be money laundering
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
Yeah the whole upstairs bit seems dead now apart from chain coffee places, it is sad.
My dad lives in Poole and Dolphin centre is similar and both high streets look exactly the same. Cobbled streets, 4 Gregg's, a few Turkish barbers, a few phone repair shops, a few charity shops and a couple of bookies.

Bit random but the price of UK burger king shocked me the most now, why the fk does anyone buy it. Its not miles off Five Guys prices now
posted 2 days, 19 hours ago
I got a return plane ticket to Eastern Europe cheaper than a return train & underground ticket to London
I’m only 45 mins away ffs
It’s really has got expensive here. Houses, travel, groceries and bills you’re left with fack all for anything else these days and that’s if you’re on a decent wage.
Dunno how the minimum wage people live ( survive ) tbh
Anyway enough ranting about stuff that’s never going to change.

Just don’t understand how they get away with it?
Couldn’t believe the state of the underground. Hadn’t used it for about 2 years and my god it’s hell down there now.
Saw 3 different people have things robbed of them while on it.
They jump on grab bags then jump off before doors shut.

Always found the price of pints thing a bit overrated in London.
Mostly it’s cos people go to tourist or popular areas in main spots and complain it costs a lot. Can find you loads of places, even in popular areas where pints are cheaper. Was at a spot 3 weeks ago in Fulham for £4 lagers.
I’ve found groceries a bit more expensive but still nothing compared to eggs/meat prices in the US.
Most mains are around 12-16 pounds which is a lot cheaper than 22-28 dollars (+tax and tip)
posted 2 days, 18 hours ago
It’s up to around £5 a pint in mk now and if you go anywhere nice like around lakes or canals you’re looking at £6.50
