I’m sure many people do believe being racist and xenophobic makes them patriotic, doesn’t make it true.

Again, it makes it a different version of being patriotic to yours, whether it's right or wrong.

Do you think those raising flags during this time are just being patriotic? Be honest. We are talking about the raise the flag movement. Not just putting up flags in general through the whole of time

Perhaps there should be a Black Flags Matter movement?

Isn't devon the one that claimed that the Tommy Robinson protest last month wasn't a hate march and then a few people posted videos of of a few people in that march that were spouting hate and he went completely silent over it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
no.
I was the one who was pretty much on there all day, making the case that not everyone there should be judged as the same sort of person as the worst sort of people there (acknowledged there a large number of hateful folk too)
Then, after literally hours and hours of commenting (first 10 pages of posts i think) i gave it a break.
Sorry to ruin your misremembering with some facts.
Here's another fact....
You're guy who started foaming at the mouth when RED said he supported the Tommy sleep outclassic!
You were angry! Hope you aint white and middle class too as that can only mean one thing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was hardly angry, I honestly had no idea what the Tommy sleep out thing was, It was a bit strange that Red decided to mention that on a thread about Tommy Robinson though. I acknowledged I made an error though.

No. There will be many whose motivations are willfully hateful. There will be plenty who are the "im not racist but...." group whose 'patriotism' is perhaps misplaced, may not from a hateful place, more just an ignorance, but there will also be some who, regardless of the immigration issue, want to stand up for the right to be patriotic, be proud, not ashamed of our flag, almost in defiance.
Part of this whole issue is about people feeling they have to feel ashamed of this country and while i can absolutely accept that the more hateful elements have hijacked our flag to a degree, they have spun this with a more palatable message, which has drawn a lot of people in.
I have a neighbour, old guy, about 6 doors down and he's always had a flag up. He doesnt fit the stereotype that many would paint, and his reasoning for keeping the flag fly is purely down to a pride (as it always has been) reinforced by the sense of defiance that no one can shame him based on his reasoning which no one cares to listen to before judging him. not all of those people are at the worst end of the extremes, but thats how many judge all of them.
That's what my point of difference is.
