Bbt and liverpool fan seem to think its an attack on their club. When evans did it i was record he should be banned and in my opinion a player should be suspended 3 games or for as long as the player remains injured.
I guess there are people from the 70s posting on this boards. We have moved on from a game that considered tackling a man from behind, where flying in to tackles with out considering the consequence is villanized and rightly so.
Every player should go into a game thinking "if someone did this to me, will i be happy?" Cannot wait till when one of your players are sidelined because of this injury. It should change your opinion quickly.
Oh and for those saying they play football and have not gotten livid when that untalented oaf flys in with a tackle with no hope of getting there, i am guessing you are one of the talentless oafs.
If you cannot get there without needing a 2 footed tackle, then cant get there at all. This is the mentality in europe and i dont see players wearing tutus there. Instead they continually maintain the highest quality of football in the world. You either grow or get left behind

Do you think sending Kompany off was correct?
Do you think players should be educated?
Do you think the game has gone soft?
Do you think tackles should be outlawed?
I am a big fan of American Football, and this season they have implemented new rules, mainly to avoid injuries. The season has become a farce, all sorts of records have been broken because players are not allowed to do stuff that was acceptable in the past, the game has become unrealistic to what it was in the past...I am not saying it is a bad thing but it dilutes the intensity of the game. I imagine the PL will become the same if this trend continues, it is not good to watch imo!
The saddest thing about last night was seeing Gerrard back out of 50/50 challenges!
As a United fan I don't think it is hypocritical at all. To me Mancini was not trying to get Johnson into trouble but was highlighting the inconsistencies in refreeing! Both should have walked in my opinion.
Secondly I find it disgusting when players harass and swear at refrees etc. It embarrasses me when United players do it and Rooney is a culprit. On this occassion he was telling the ref that it was 2 footed not waving a card.
Mancini was wrong to say that "Rooney told him his decision" but he is right to highlight that Johnson's tackle was as bad as Kompany's.
BBT
You are making out like red cards for two footers is something new. It's obviously been considered a red card offence since 2007.
Bbt
Yes!
Yes, but unless they are hiding under a cave they know these rules.
Soft? Yes! Thank God for that too. Back in the day then those fullblooded challenges use to maim the talented players. It was the great equalizer for those who could not match the talent of top teams. Compare the game before and now, swansea, norwich come up playing pass first football. Its wonderful to me!
Tackles have not be been outlawed, only tackles which have a highlight reel of devastating consequences.
Huge fan of amer football! Records are fantastic, but you need to see the autopsies of their brains. You need to see the older players, the suicides, players dying at 45, players needing pain killers to gert out of bed. They are sueing now for billions! They wont win but you can see that they wished they knew and i promise you, the price of records would be even worth paying.
The "purity of the game" is not worth the price of one player losing his future, spending months injured. It never will. Not to diminish all the passions involved but it IS JUST A GAME!
Elvis
Has every two footed challenge since 2007 been subject to a red card?
Clearly they haven't, my point is be consistent or don't, i.e. do not say two footed tackles are red card offences when some are given and some are not!
Do you not think that consistency should be the rule here? Should it really be left to the referee who sees it at real speed, clearly they are inconsistent, is it fair that Kompany was sent off yet Johnson will escape any punishment?

As sick as people defending tackles that have a proven record of leading very damaging injuries? It seems clear that the only reason pool fans want to defend this so strongly is because thry have players who have committed these offenses. Its all good and nice protecting your own, but think of the greater good.
To me it is like driving drunk, just because people can be over the limit and drive does not make it ok drive tipsy. You can fly in, get the ball miss the player, does not make it right. The rules have changed and for very good reasons too.
Arab banned from lfc board? Why?

I get what you are saying, we are not going to solve football with this debate.
I appreciate you referring to my NFL comments, I get to see a very limited amount of it, but even I can see that the game has become softer due to the 'protection' that is afforded to 'QB'S, receivers etc these days. That game has become soft, Chris Collinsworth said himself that he would love to be able to play in this age, I am fearful that the same thing will happen with football. Football imo was never broken, why try to fix it? I may be considered a dinosaur in that respect but to me football was all about physical stuff, to me that is getting taken out of the game!

I am guessing, and remember this is just my opinion, but I am guessing he got banned because he was an absolute pri**! Just sayin....

Cris collingsworth is a whiny old man who lucked out of having any serious damage. What was he a cornerback?
I love full blooded tackles both in footie and american football. I remember john lynch undersizd safety lighting up wide recievers running through the middle. May be what made love the game. But even john lynch is now paying the price with his body. A qb got hit so hard he did not remember how he got hit. Funny right? Similar occurs with car accident victims.
Not trying to guilt you for enjoying the game you have been enjoying for yrs but change is the only constant in life. Football is actually stubborn. It has refused instant replay, retroactive punishments (yes some happen now but majority is ignored) from video replay, effing goal line technology. Its still old school
You say the game is perfect as is and i can remember when we did not have a backpass rule and how much that one change improved the game immensely. Btw it was regarded as pointless too. I want to be able to watch the best players play regularly both attackers and defenders. I remember rio and woodgate and adams and hyppia in their prime. Rarely gave up cards or dived into tackles. If this rule leads to more defending of this form then football will improve immensely!

-----------------
I didn't say that did I? Refs make mistakes and don't always follow what the FA had told them. But since 2007 it has been quite obvious to me that there has been a crackdown.
How anybody can say it was a poor tackle is unbeleivable.
It may have been against current rules and given that probably should have been a red, but it was a cracking tackle and should be applauded.
As should kompany's on Sunday.
If we're just going to start saying 'yeah but if he moved his foot here or if he did that then it might possibly have become dangerous blah blah' then the passion will be gone.

None of the new rules in NFL have really had any effect on tackling. Howewever, some of them have been designed to outlaw exteremely dangerous play.
What new rules do you think don't work, apart from the new kick off rule? That one will probably be recinded next year.
