Fulham Ngog bid rejected - Oracle

Alan Nixon is reporting in tomorrow's Sunday People that Fulham have had a bid rejected for Wanderers ex-France under 21 striker David Ngog.

If they offered us at least what we paid for him, then I think that's a fair offer, but it is a bit frustrating these clubs coming in for our players a week before the new season begins.

I think it's more likely they took the <urine> and offered 2M or something.

I can see the player potentially wanting to leave as he made unhappy noises in the French press and it wouldn't surprise me if he had a relegation clause in his contract which slashed his wages. I thought he did well in all aspects of his role last season, except, of course, putting the ball in the back of the net.

Which he was when the squad was fully fit first half of the season before last - hands down he nicest football I've ever seen Bolton play. I genuinely believe that if we kept holden and lee fit then we would easily have finished mid table, but that's not to say that coyle didn't well and truly balls up last season

These Coyle vs Megson debates keep coming round time and time again on here - I'm not going to object to them. Sometimes its frustrating and other times its a good chance to see how someone else sees a situation.

The fact is the the people that want Owen Coyle out are massively in the minority (not necessarily on here or Nuts) but throughout our match attending fans and those that think Megson was a half decent manager are also massively in the minority - this is evidenced by the fact that people were only demanding Coyle sacked on internet forums and the odd phone in. If there had been any groundswell of people wanting Coyle out there would've been protests after games outside the club as with the Megson debacle and pressure would've very much been felt by Gartside and the board to do something about it.

If Owen Coyle had a full strength side last season and we got relegated I, like most, would've expected him to be sacked. Last season there were extenuating circumstances that added to our relegation, but I can bet that OC and the board will feel the pressure, and justifiably so if we don't get off to a strong start.

Petrov made an excellent comment above about the stark comparisons of Megson to Coyle, but the disadvantage of comparing both men on stats does not account for their influence throughout the club on a day to day basis and how that feels internally within the club from players to the maintenance guy at Euxton. Megson lost the players support and many of the internal employees long before he got sacked and this clearly hasn't happened with the current players or employees of BWFC (Burnden Leisure).

I know the Holden 'Trump' card is often played on here (and imo rightly so), but even though Holden probably won't figure until October at the earliest, everyone will agree that we are a division lower, so the standard of skill in this division compared to the Prem is less. As such the Holden factor won't be able to be used to cover over bad performances and myself and many others will be expecting a dominant start to this campaign or OC, Gartside and the board will most certainly start to feel proper pressure from the majority of our fans!

JAH I agree that megsons personality got him the sack not his ability as a manager otherwise coyle would also have got the boot. Coyle has the ability to get people to believe in him even if he does not deliver. Which can be as dangerous at times as the poison that was megson. People on here hated megson so was glad when he went but it will be much harder for some to take if coyle goes.

You simply can't use the Holden argument as megson signed his supposed missing link in Sean Davies and he played less than Holden. He could as easily argue that the season would have gone better and that Gavin McCann would not have played had it not been for that injury. McCann being a player he did not sign. With regards the finance you could also argue it cost significantly more to tear apart sammy lees team than it has to improve megsons which is why so much was spent. Don't forget a lot was self funded as well like coyles with sale of anelka.

There is little difference other than we stuck with coyle and he took us down

You mean that team that finished top eight four years running Petrov? Coyle was left with a much inferior squad imo and virtually no money. I cant actually believe people think Megson is similar to Coyle. He is no genius I think we all agree but Megson and Lee to a lesser degree did huge damage.
Despite this, I believe 100% that without the Evans incident we would have been top 10 two years running. With twenty years and funding like he recieved Megson would never achieve that. I have faith we will bounce back but it will not be a walk in the park. The whole club needs our fans behind everyone, Coyle included.

Seriously do some research on the team big Sam left and what sammy lee brought in.

Lee only did one good purchase in bogdan
Jay Samuel
Gavin McCann
Braaten
Wilhelmson
Cid

Whereas coyle got
Elmander
Lee
Cahill
Mavies
Mart Taylor
Steinsson
Klasnic
Muamba
Ricketts

Sorry but on this one you are wrong. You can pick out shittu as a flop but even knight is better than Cid.

Yes knight and shittu were

Petrov you make me laugh you really do. Here is a list of players Megson inherited, maybe research isnt your strong point.
Jussi
Ali
Nolan
Speed
Stelios
Campo
Diouf
Anelka
They were at the core of our success under BSA, the best team I have ever seen in a Bolton shirt.
How many of the list you posted were successful apart from Lee and Cahill? How much did that list cost? Did his policy of having a larger squad of high earners benefit us?

It is simple, we had a good squad (yes I said Sammy takes blame but much less) and over the course of three years we tripled our debt and went backwards in quality. Coyle had an extremely difficult job of dealing with snowballing wage bills (this summer its over) and improving a team destined for relegation. Wilshere saved us.
Rasiak, Cohen, Wilhelmsson, Taylor, Elmander, Muamba, Riga, Shittu, Robinson, Davis and Knight were not good signings.

Megson inherited them way past their best. Campo, speed, stelios. He had to sell Anelka in January. Diouf and Nolan yes but the facts are there to see many more of megsons squad would play than sammy lees.
As for making you laugh if facts make you laugh then fine but you are wrong. Megson and coyles record at Bolton are similar apart from relegation.

As for wage bills if we finish third this season then fail in the financial cost will far outweigh any megson damage. Again I am not backing megson just claiming apart from personality and relegation there is little to split them
