How the hell do guys that short and small play football?!
I just spent half an hour getting completely battered some some fat tall s in the game because I'm Lionel Messi's height. How the hell does he do it?!
Any of you smaller guys here play football? If so please tell me your secrets!

Be good at passing, they cant get anywhere near you if they cant get the ball off you

You're playing at a level that really doesn't matter,

How terribly sizeist is that comment.
I think a natural progression for any of you under 5'6" may well be a move to a Subbuteo league.

I am going to start hitting the gym - I need to get a lot stronger
The treadmill doesn't work, I used to do 10k five days a week, and thought I was really fit, but was totally sha-gged after just 10 minutes of 5-a-side. I'm a lot fitter since I started doing cross country, but I'm forever picking up injuries, nursing a tendonitis at the mo.

True enough.
Similarly, I once rode the Alp d'huez stage of the Tour de France, in front of the telly on an exercise bike.
Next day I had to get off my real bike halfway up Everton valley, due to lack of breath.
Turned out I just needed a quick ciggy, and everything was fine from then on.

I was under the impression that short, intensity-oriented exercises were best for football fitness?
Jogging's okay, but as far as I know, pro football teams now concentrate on high-tempo, high-intensity work in training. Plenty of sprinting and three-quarters pace work.
I remember Steve Clarke bring asked who'd be the best Liverpool player to back in a marathon race and he said he wouldn't know, that training for football no longer involves long jogs.

You maybe right, running in a straight line is not the same as twisting and turning whilst sprinting. I'm no Mo Farah, but I'm fairly fit, but if I have to sprint suddenly I'm goosed after a mere 30 seconds, that's why I'm in awe of players like Bale, who can run at speed for 90 minutes (I know they don't run for the whole 90 minutes, but you know what I mean)

Being a short a_rse is no use at all if you're still morbidly obese
