That idiot Adrian Durham was on the radio this afternoon trying to tell the world That Steven Gerard was the best central midfield player that has ever played for England.
He must have missed the likes of Bobby Charlton.
I know a lot of youngsters think football started when the premiership started but there is not one current Spurs player who would get in my all time THFC X1 and I dont think there is a current English footballer that would get in my all time England X1 either.
Probably our best player at the moment is Bale, yet Cliff Jones was a better all round footballer beyond a shadow of a doubt IMO.
Glen Hoddle was in fact a far better footballer than Steven Gerard and for some odd reason he was never a regular for England. Maybe the media picked the side in those days as well.
Getting old is not a good thing believe me but at least I can reflect on having seen players at WHL that we can only dream about nowadays.
Jimmy Greaves, the best goalscorer there has ever been in my eyes. Cliff Jones, a winger that had it all. Mike England, a real centre defender.

I do agree that in different generations the game changed, and who was considered a a great player back in the day would struggle in the modern era!
Again never seen him play, but watching Hoddle's clips is so inspiring!

Once he went from the England setup, the general quality seemed to improve IMHO.

While I may agree sindy is a clown I am afraid he is right particularly regarding Jimmy Greaves. Greaves would have scored goals in any era he was simply fantastic mind you there were a few in that era nearly as good, Dennis Law for instance

Are you going to compare Friedal with Pat Jennings ?
Or maybe Gallas with Mike England ?
Or maybe even Defoe and Adebayor against the likes of Greaves, Gilzean, Sheringham and Klinnsman ?
As for midfield when you have had the likes of Blanchflower, Mackay, Hoddle, Gazza, Cliff Jones, Ginola, Jimmy White, etc etc we definitely dont have a midfield player playing now who would get in my all time X1 so name me one you think would.

Our team in the last few years has been as good as it's been in my lifetime. Bale, Lennon, Modric, VDV, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Kaboul, they'd all be close to my Tottenham XI. To say that no-one playing at the moment would make it into teams of the past is ridiculous/

ive been a spurs fan since 1982, and i can think of at least one better player in every position from that period, than the current incumbant.
I'd have thought that the ony recent players who would be under consideration for a team of the last 30 years would be King, Berbatov, and possibly Sandro and one of the wingers.
