Alright lads there's an excellent article on the BBC about how Modric is beginning to mature into one of Madrid's most consistent and top performers - up there with the likes of Ronaldo and Xabi.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26290691
The guy was absolute class in a Spurs shirt and destroyed us many times as far as I can remember (that 4-0 at WHL where he scored a worldy before we went down to 9 men I believe was one of the best performances I've seen him play). Now I do watch a lot of La Liga and what struck me last season was how he looked slightly short of confidence and his usual quick interchange of passes to feet and curved through balls just weren't there. For me the match that changed it all was the United game where he came on and turned the tie in Madrid's favour. What was even more saddening was how the Madrid fans voted him the worst signing of Madrid's season at Marca - bunch of jokers
Now I think Levy did reasonably well to squeeze that extra season out of him before he eventually departed but it was a beginning of an overhaul from which I don't think Spurs have yet fully recovered. I would take Modric over all of your current central midfield options of Paulinho, Dembele, Bentaleb and Capoue. Combine his loss with that of VDV and Bale and that is three excellent and on their day potentially world class players gone which has hit Spurs hard.
Now personally I haven't seen much of your games this season but looking at the league table has annoyed me a lot as you guys have constantly grinded out results and lie only 3 points behind. Despite the sacking of a manager and a so called mid-season crisis, your doing excellently points wise in the league. I look at your home record and it's not the best however (which is similar to our away record) but I really do feel if you had Modric in this side your points tally would have been a lot greater this season.
Which brings me to say I know it is difficult to keep hold of your best players when Senor Perez comes calling with a bundle of notes but in my opinion Levy has not invested the money as well as he should have done. He is excellent at squeezing money out of other clubs clearly but there has been a massive downside to his leadership as well. There was no need for a complete overhaul of your squad this season at all. You lost Bale and BAE from your first team but that was pretty much it and a few squad members such as Huddlestone and Livermore. What bringing in seven new first team players has done is caused an imbalance of your squad and also out of the ones bought not one has really set the league alight. Instead you have your exiled and forgotten striker being your best hope of a top four finish at present. So I'm not sure what you all think about Levy and yes your premier league finishes under him at the helm have been impressive but for me you could do far better with a better chairman with a proper long term plan.
P.S Unlucky against the Ukrainians last night but my word how bad are Townsend and Dawson. Townsend just cuts in to have a poor shot or belts a cross along the 18 yard box which goes to nobody.

Up there with the likes of Ronaldo & Xabi?
Did you seriously imply that Xabi Alonso is Real Madrid's second best player? He's just a complimentary part at Madrid.
Modric is definitely more talented than Alonso. The good thing about Alonso is that he realises his limitations and keeps it simple. In fact, Khedira's injury allowed Modric to start & he immediately started to produce the sort of performances Alonso isn't capable of.
Modric isn't 'far inferior' to Fabregas but Cesc is better. Fabregas is the most gifted midfielder in the world (perhaps along with Ozil) and the only player capable of playing #10 as well as Cesc is M1O (and maybe Isco down the line). But Modric is better in a deeper CM role.

Iniesta is not as talented as Fabregas or Ozil.
Fabregas was shining in the PL & CL and Ozil was starring at the World Cup at the same age that Iniesta was an unknown playing for Barca B.
Anyway, Iniesta has been poor for over a year now.

Wow. The BBC article is nuts. Claiming he's the "overwhelming" choice for Player of the Season. Not even facking close. Ronaldo? Messi? Diego Costa? Hell, Alexis and Cesc in Barca have been better. Di Maria has been as good for Madrid.
But those first 3 are head and shoulders above anyone. And in Madrid, Ronaldo is head, shoulders and waist above anyone.

World class mmidfielder. Has everything and vastly underrated.
I get gutted when people mention modric vdv king and bale. In 10 years time people will look back and think how in the world did we not win anything or challenge more. Its sickening it really is for me.

I wouldn't say Modric is "underrated". Except you expect he should have Xavi's profile for example. He's a pretty highly rated footballer.

Modric had a hard time in his first season with Real Madrid.
Our 7 new siginings have had a hard time in their first seaon with us.
Modric is doing brilliant in his second season.
Our 7 signings could........
You get where I am going with this.

Modric was a shear class and we have not replaced him. Maddened me when people said dembele was a better replacement at the start of last season.
Luka would walk into every team in the league, true pro.
