Guys - I know Pepe seems a really nice bloke but I really believe it is a leap of faith to think he can learn the Premier League fast and take us forward as a club. Assuming we stay up (which we will have done in spite of him rather than anything he has done) I think we should shake hands and part company.

If we let Mel go at the end of the season then the following will happen:

1) The club and JP are going to look stupid.
2) We will have to spend a month looking for a new head coach.
3) That month should be spent working on the squad and having the necessary overhaul that is required.
4) We will probably end up with someone like Hughton in charge who will take us down playing ugly football.
5) Most importantly we will thrown away a very good coach who can do very good things with this club with his own players and back room staff in.

Pepe Mel to stay.

Disagree with this on so many levels.

JH /WBA Josh

Maybe you will get your way and he will stay.
But I am certain you will want him out before too long next year. The club would look a whole lot more stupid next year if Pepe were to fail. I agree JP got it wrong - better to bite the bullet now.

I have never wanted a coach/manager at WBA sacked and never will so you're wrong with that assumption. I'm one of Pepe's biggest fans including when he was in charge of Real Betis.

Pepe took over with he club in a tough position both on and off the pitch and has had to put up with a lot of crap. Even with all of this, he has acted in a dignified, humble manner and taken the club to his heart. He has got us playing very good football again. Unfortunately he has been let down by the defence who at times seem unable to defend even though they have been defending the same way for the past 4 years.

Who do you propose to take over then?

Let's look at what Mel has had to deal with.

1 - Nicolas Anelka and his stupid quennelle gesture.
2 - Constant media witch hunts against him and his future just because he isn't English.
3 - No public support from Peace and his lapdogs which would shut the media up.
4 - An idiot trying to push in with first team matters.
5 - A squad which includes some disrespectful players that don't like to follow instructions.
6 - A young prodigy who would rather party and inhale hippy crack instead of working hard and keeping in shape.
7 - He wasn't allowed to bring in his own staff. Roberto Rios is still contracted to Betis but David Gomez should have came in straight away with him.
8 - He was only allowed to sign a raw prodigy with an attitude problem on loan in January.

Even with all that crap going on, Mel has acted in a dignified manner and gone about his job professionally. He has even put his own philosophy to one side to instead play a style that the current set of players are suited to. Not many coaches do that in world football now. It may not be perfect yet as it is a work in progress but he can do very well for us when he has his own squad and back room staff onboard.
