Valdes: de Gea is world's best goalkeeper

Victor Valdes believes David de Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world and admits it will be difficult to dislodge him from Manchester United’s starting line-up.

Former Barcelona keeper Valdes completed his move to United on Thursday after he signed an initial 18-month deal.

Valdes spent the majority of his 12-year spell at Barcelona as the first-choice stopper but he is set to be behind his Spanish compatriot De Gea in the Old Trafford pecking order.

"I think now, in the moment, (De Gea) is the best goalkeeper in the world," Valdes told MUTV.

"His performances every day and in every game show everybody that his level is very high. He has had a great year."

Valdes insists he is a team player and is therefore happy to be De Gea’s deputy.

"I am here to help everybody," he added.

"Always in my career, I have played to help my team-mates, to help my coach and to help everybody. I am a part of the team and I am not a problem, I am just a part of the team."

Do you agree with Victor? Is he the best? I think DDG is up there amongst the best, but the best in the world? Hmmm...

I don't want much European football, so I don't know how other top GKs like Buffon, Casillas and Neuer are getting on.

Discuss.

And apparently we cant find a keeper

Lindegaard is looking for a new club. It's a step backwards for him, but better than nothing I suppose.

If he performs will for you, a big club might come in and snap him up.

DDG is far from the finished article, which is why he is nowhere near the top from me. Doesn't command the area when a cross comes in, still has a few iffy moments, sticks to the goal-line a bit too much.

People only really rate GK on if they are a good shot-stopper or not, which is only part of what makes a WC keeper.

Agreed. Any top WC keeper needs to know how to handle a toilet brush.

Courtois for me. I don't really get all the hype surrounding Neuer.

He sure is better than Iker

Ahem. Iker is a more recent World Champion.

That mickey mouse cup where you had the Zookeepers of Auckland city as 3rd and you had to play a team in the final relying on the divination of an oldman in a white dress to win?

great to see all the positive stuff from Valdez and LVG, Although these DDG to Madrid/Barca rumours wont go away till he sign a contract extension. United need to get this done dusted before the summer imo, other clubs may start to get bright ideas when DDG is in the last year of his contract.

Neuer is the best GK in the world

DDG is in the top 3 keepers in the world at the moment along with neuer and courtois.

Yes Buffon has a claim to be once of the best ever, but he isn't what he was.
