Real Madrid and Barcelona killing La Liga?

Just came across these comments from La Liga's President..

Tebas said Real Madrid and Barcelona's superstars could now leave Spain.

"Well yes I think so. We have a serious problem, and we won't be the best league in a year," Tebas said.
"We're going to lose a lot of value in the market because the Premier league is going to snap up all of the global TV competition and contracts."

"Unless we urgently move towards centralised TV rights sales, Spanish football is going to have a very serious problem," Tebas added.
"Economically we'll end up with a fifth-level competition."

Espanyol president Joan Collet claimed this week that some top-flight clubs are ready to strike if the government does not pass a law mandating collective bargaining in La Liga.

Will Barca and Real offer to take part in collective bargaining? I doubt it but if they don't they may end up in a league of 2 or 3 sides.

Anyone who thinks the extra money going into the prem will change anything is seriously deluded.

Billionaire owners are the only thing that have changed the landscape since the prsmier leagues inception.

Football is dying and it is sad to see.

It's a fair chunk melton, but I'm not convinced it's enough to severely dent the big 2's power to attract the big names, less so if they can still reasonably expect to make up a fair bit by helping to create a more attractive overall league product that could draw bigger audiences and therefore better TV deals.

Look at the current top names/performers in the PL. So many of them have ended up there because Liga clubs needed the cash so badly and simply couldn't compete with PL wages anyway. Even with a slightly less competitive package, some of the big 2 cast-offs might still have preferred to stay in Spain, but the PL just blows anything the other Spanish clubs can offer right out of the water.

.................................................................

Depends what you mean by change anything...

I think it will strengthen the PL relative to other foreign leagues, I would argue somebody who disagrees with that would be the deluded one...

Wasn't a criticism of them IAOG and of course you are right there will always be a gap between the biggest and the smaller clubs just my view on how things are.

TBH I didn't realise we were that much more footy mad than you, I just assumed all the footballing countries would be like this....

But hull invested big this last year saf.

Bombed out of Europe by mighty lokeren and Ina relegation battle.

More money doesn't mean more quality, all that happens is over inflated players are signed up.

Ideye brown a great example, 10 million quid

Not really, SAF. Of course there are some who are football-mad, but generally speaking you don't get anywhere near as much support for smaller clubs. Getafe must have been in the first division for a good decade now, and had some fairly handy teams in that time, but I doubt their average attendance excluding games vs the big 2 is even 10,000 per game.

Cinci don't get me wrong there will be plenty if mistakes and money wasted, but over time it will tell...

Why do you think the big leagues are like they are and the Dutch league has been on the decline (Scotland as well)

It isn't bad luck or just because they are worse run than clubs in big leagues, it's money, overtime it tells.

Doesn't matter. With the commercialisation and corporatisation of clubs these days and the discussions about playing matches across the world I predict that we will see a world super league within 10 years. All the top club owners will get together create their own federation and league and turn club football into an NFL style global circus. You could argue that FIFA could ban the players from the world cup of they play for these teams but quite frankly the players won't care because of the reputations of the teams and the money they will receive. Plus the world cup would be dead without the stars in these teams so they will have to bend to there power and let the players play in order to retain the same profit levels.

I'd be surprised if that happened in the next 30 years let alone 10....

Most of the big clubs have very good reasons not to move, you do realise if the biggest most successful clubs all played in one league then they wouldn't be as successful anymore.

Its a pipe dream that even if it does happen is not going to happen for sometime.

Up to now, the juggernauts of European football have stayed within their national associations and within UEFA because things have gone very well for them with minimal risk. A World or European Superleague will happen the moment they can no longer get what they want from UEFA/FIFA.

They've already formed a European Club Association that's taken over from the G-14. It claims to be less elitist, more democratic and more inclusive, but the structure ensures that it's still dominated by the top clubs from the biggest leagues.

As a pressure group, the ECA will continue to move football in the direction the big clubs want. Should UEFA and the national associations get too cocky, the ECA now has more than enough members to ensure a multiple division or regionalised European Superleague.

I'd say the likelihood of Ronaldo or Messi joining Burnley or Eibar because of the threat of being expelled from FIFA is pretty slim.
