Give it a decade and this will be the state of the Premier league

It's a problem for them now.

Part of their advantage over Europe is their individual tv deals, but that is slowly killing their own league and limiting the growth if their own deals.

I used to hope they would goto collective deals to weaken them, tbh these days i am half tempted to want them to keep their individual tv deals so it weakens them (medium to long term)

Great news for United either way.

If we did individual tv deals like Spain it would be....

What is it that they exactly want? That T.V rights in Spain be equally shared, like they are in the Premier League?

Seriously doubt that is going to happen, Barcelona and Real Madrid aren't ready to lose an arm an a leg to make a level playing field.

Dark, I doubt Barca and real would want to agree to anything but they'll find the other sides going on strike.

Don't think it matters if Real and Barca veto it. As far as I'm aware it's a majority vote

Robb, Andy Carrot - If that's the case, then why was this not done a long time ago? Surely it's not an issue that's just popped up now?

Either way, it'd be best for the league if they did so, but you'd need everyone to strike collectively. Not just Espanyol and Valencia.

Tbh either way is a win for United...

No deal, medium long term benefit for United as la Liga gets weaker.

New deal, short term benefit as Real and Barca's income falls dramatically.

Atletico were the champions and CL runners up last season, they got about £40m from the TV deal. Norwich got relegated last season and got £80m odd. Joke.

Unless I'm mistaken I read the other day that they've agreed a reduction on their TV deals. The disparity between the have's and have-not's won't be as huge as it is right now. As for the league itself, it's actually tighter than you'd imagine.

Isn't there a team like 7 points clear at the top of La Liga?So incompetitive. Wouldn't see in the PL cos the teams is tooo equal.

The reason why the EPL is the most watched in the world is not the quality of the football but the atmosphere in the stadiums and the level playing field.

I find the most games in la liga boring.

I watch many games in La Liga including lower teams and I find them anything but boring. You learn to appreciate the difference in style between teams here and in Spain. The Barcelona Villarreal game the other night for example was an absolute cracker and really showcased excellence.

Therefore it's even more astounding that Atletico Madrid the defending La Liga champions got €42m from their TV deal last season whereas Cardiff who were the lowest deal earners in the Premier League last season still pocketed €74.5m. Thats also more than double what the Bundesliga champions got at €36.9m. Most powerful and financially strong is the Premier League I'd say but it still lags behind helping the national teams development as well as having not the best players in the world.

Don't let your kids grow up thinking football is a TV show.

In all honesty the football in the PL isn't all its hyped upto be. You've got Chelsea parking the bus in all the big games and plenty of teams just surrendering possession in order to sit and wait to win on the counter or via a set piece.

The Simpsons predicted this. In a few years they will move the EPBPL league to qatarbuquerque

Barca and Madrid's myopic greed has long killed the competition in the league - even factoring the miracle of Athletico, a team operating on a small fraction of the big 2's budget. They're too short-sighted to see the long-term damage it's doing to the league and this affects them too in the long-term if they're seen as simply ruling a sunny version of the SPL.

Crazy as it sounds, Madrid and Barça do have the right - in combination - to veto new TV deals; i.e. they both have to agree the veto.

All the other clubs acknowledged them this right years ago, when they set up a committee on the issue in which the big 2 were the only permanent members (out of a total of 8). Valencia and Atletico were also granted some sort of right to veto, though it doesn't work exactly the same way - not sure how it goes.

Madrid and Barca have enough sponsorship deals and revenue that brings in to cope with a level playing field. I think the structure in PL is very sustainable. Having a level playing field was a smart move.

I do hope La Liga sort this out to a level playing field because then the talent they have plus the money, the competition will be much better for any fan.

Heard Madrid would be happy to sell Ronaldo

..................................................................

Against their fellow La Liga teams yeah, in comparison to the richest clubs in Europe though they would suffer hell of a drop.

They would still of course both be some of the richest clubs around but it would make a big difference to both at the top end.

IOAG, why did they let them have that veto, I imagine there must have been something traded off for it?

They aren't the best league now. La Liga is so boring

I am looking forward to when the last ever English player plays in the PL. The coverage he will get. With ever more oily owners and equally greasy foreign managers, do you think they will care if a player is English or not. The league will get moved to Mars and will be played upside down for the Australian market as it will bring in more cash. That's why we love the romance of the PL. Cash for oil asians. So romantic.
