The best striker we've ever had.....?

........................................................................
........................................................................

I certainly think so.

And to think we got him in from Leicester City...!!

I also remember him running the channels and trapping balls, but he is remembered mainly for being clinical in front of goal.

We've had some wonderful strikers haven't we..?

Mick Jones.
Lee Chapman
Tony Yeboah
Steve Morison
Billy Paynter
John 'Yer Diseased' Pearson
Brian Deane
Tore Andre Flo
Joe Jordan
Ian Baird

Here's hoping young Mr Wood can emulate Mr Clarke and become a legend at ER

But who is your favourite from all the one's you've seen...?

Isn't it odd that our all time top scorer wasn't a striker?.

Oh, and he's been slaughtered a few times around here as well!.

He's only been slaughtered for some of his comments since retiring. None for his achievements as a player.

Ex-players make comments about the club - as they're perfectly entitled to do - and generally do so based on what they know behind the scenes. I'd argue they've better contact and "inside info" than the average poster on here.

Whether we agree with their comments or not - and I've often disagreed with Peter L for instance, I nonetheless accept it as a considered opinion and nothing more. Like anything else i'll view and assess it on my interpretation. They shouldn't, in my view, be slaughtered for it.

They wore the shirt, and invariably were idolised because of how they performed at the time. They contributed to the name and history of the club - that merits applause for me .............. and allows them the ability to voice opinion on current circumstances/situation the club faces.

I agree VOF and I am just commenting on how I see it.

I do think a fair few feel.he aligned himself to the Devil in the guise of Ken Bates and he was pilloried for some his comments around that time.

Eric ....... I think he did align himself to Bates. So did all the other ex-players who were available for pre and post match functions. How many, out of principle, refused to meet the fans, be involved with the club and generally be associated with the club itself during Bates' tenure?

If Bates was such a negative and detrimental (and i'm not saying he wasn't) effect on the club - wouldn't all these guys have walked and refused to be part of his hospitality setup?

Lorimer was the public face, the one in the press. He wasn't the only one supporting the then regime ........ and others since .........

VOF

I still think Lorimer was given a bit too much of a beasting by many on here. Most of the ones that did were, IMO, not the ones that saw him play...!

Albeit I wished on a few occasions that he would wind his neck in.

I agree Eric .......... sometimes I thought he spouted rubbish, probably prompted by Bates - but others hung around while Rome was burning didn't they :?!?!?

VOF

He spouted rubbish at times, so do most of the one's that moaned so vehemently about him on here. In fact we've got one or two could outdo him hands down.

The thing is he's around the club, which means if he'd said something against he would have been sent packing, the same as anyone at the club now!..

I remember him standing by another of our x-player's and being ripped to shreds for doing it, even though what he said was the truth!.
