Tony Romo: Can he lead Dallas to the SB?

One of the Cowboys AGM's has come out and tipped Romo to be the MVP in the upcoming season, and lead Dallas on a Super Bowl run.

His argument mainly seems to be based around their "massively improved offense"

I can't see it personally.

Romo has a case for being the most influential returning player this season, with what could be a highly effective offense with two accomplished pass catchers in Bryant and Witten, an exciting rookie running back in Zeki Elliott and arguably the best offensive line in football. You could be forgiven for struggling to not see the Cowboys returning to the postseason. All Romo has to do is stay healthy (how many times have we heard that though?).

So why don't I think it's realistic? Simply, I don't think they have a championship level defense. There's nobody in their defensive line capable of getting to the quarterback, which was ultimately what allowed the Broncos shut down Newton last season and win it. Dallas have no one who can come off the edge and do what Denver did against the top teams.

21 years and counting.

On a side note, if Romo has another injury plagued season I genuinely think that'll be the end of him at Dallas.

Finally, this article is in no way to be treated as a direct response the the Cowboys fan enlightened hippo asking for me to be banned from the site for telling Romo jokes on another thread!

Go Pack Go.

Every year someone predicts it to be a great year for the cowboys, they are just a bit of a mess at all levels of the organisation

Mick,

I think the chances of re-signing him are minimal. Way too much baggage and controversy off the field despite a strong end to his 2015 season. I know they Cowboys have said they want to keep their options open on him, and they are in dire need of an effective pass rush now.

They might be left with no choice. I rate Hardy, and will be interesting to see where he ends up.

He knows the playbook, that's a huge advantage at this stage.

I can see then giving him a 1 year deal.

Controversial but I would be tempted to cut ties with McClain. He's consistently shown to be unreliable, and as good as he is I think it's hindering their progress as a team.

I agree Mick, a one year deal makes sense. Might just be that they don't want to lose face and want to focus on giving guys like Hitchens and Nzeocha a chance to impress.

I think right now McClain is nothing more than a stop gap for the Cowboys gambling on Smith being fit for 2017. Don't expect them to give him another season.

When you consider who's probably going to be starting for them out of necessity (Nzeocha, Gachkar, Wilber) it's very hard not to write them off completely.

Romo and Garrett. Nice guys but with the competition in the NFC, it's going to be highly unlikely that they can win a SB, never mind make it to the NFC championship game.

If Romo stays fit their offence could carry them into the playoffs but with their defence they wouldnt get past GB, Hawks or Cards. I don't think the guy quoted was being very objective. Sucking up to old Jerry maybe.

To be fair, by getting injured and losing his spot to a rookie, he almost did
