Sadio Mane

Phil McNulty ‏@philmcnulty 6m6 minutes ago
Sadio Mane to undergo Liverpool medical tomorrow before completing £30m move from Southampton. A well-worn route that one.

Good signing for you, we were very interested in him last summer but nothing came of it. He was very inconsistent last season though, had some good and bad games.

That's the fifth player you've bought from Southampton in the last two years if I'm correct.

I think Allen is going from strength to strength, on current form its Hendo who I'm looking at

Allens earned another season

Allen > Henderson all day long.

Unfortunately I think Hendo's long term injury is ruining his career. Nowhere near the player he was 2 years ago.

I hope that day is in the North Pole in the middle of winter.

I know Allen has done well for Wales but Coleman is not Klopp, they play a different way. If Allen isn't what Klopp wants then I have no problem with him being moved on. There seems to be rumours of clubs being interested and bidding (Swansea primarily) and if bids are being made then I'd imagine they've had encouragement from us to say he's available at the right price.

Allen I'm not fussed on either way, if he stays then he's a decent squad player and if he goes then it wont weaken our first eleven.

Mane I'm not sold on. It seems that when he's good he's very, very good and when he's not he looks disinterested.

That said, he seems to score at a rate of 1 in 3 which is a hell of a lot better than Lallana's strike rate of 1 every 3 months. With Coutinho, Firmino and Mane there would be define goal threat from behind the striker.

For me, Allen is above Lucas and Hendo, probably on a par with Milner for a centre midfield spot.

Hendo has gone massively backwards, and I can't see Lucas being content with a bit part at this stage in his career. Would be disappointed if Allen left. Can see him kicking on massively next season.

On what basis do you think he's on par with Milner and above Henderson? I'm assuming you think Can is also ahead of him?

He was mainly used as a sub last year by both Rodgers and Klopp, despite injuries holding Henderson back. He had some good games and some not so good ones which is pretty much the story of his time with us to date.

His performances for Wales have been great but they're set up very differently from us. I want him to do as well as possible for us, I just don't see where your optimism of him kicking on comes from.

It's more a case of Henderson going backwards, seemingly unable to get fit, and Milner aging, his engine not going to last forever.

Allen has done well whenever he's gotten a run in the side. unfortunately, that's been too few and far between thus far in his Liverpool career.

Last season he developed adventure and attacking intent, something that had been sorely lacking in his game previously. He stopped playing safe, and looked far better because of it for me.

I always thought Allen was useless. He never seemed to do much when Rodgers was around and he gave the ball away far too much.

Since Klopp has arrived (or since Allen grew the beard) his performances appear to have been more solid. He seems to be a more rounded player now and should get at least one more season.

Lucas always seemed to have a daft foul in him but while he was playing as CB he again seems to have improved. Could be a good squad player as CB especially with hug 'n tug Skrtel on his way out.

But would he be able to handle the new role on a permanent basis albeit as a squad player, or more to the point would he want to?

Fair enough. I personally think saying he's done well when he's been given a run is a bit of a stretch. He's had good and bad games. Very little consistency of performance and with a tendency to give the ball away. You do have a point about him showing more attacking intent though.

I struggle with the idea that Allen gets into the picture because Henderson has deteriorated and Milner is aging. Sounds like we're just lowering the bar to me. If Henderson and Milner drop off then we should look to invest in improvement rather than accepting someone who would have been 3rd/4th choice 18 months ago.

Don't mind Allen as a squad player but not a starter for me.
