Messi

Remember when people use to say he struggled against English clubs?

Well

Messi has scored more Champions League goals against English clubs than against sides from any other country

Still yet to do it at Stoke though.

The maradona argument will always relate to World Cup performances and winning the Italian league with an unfancied side,on this issue maradona shades it as Leo can only point to his greatness at one top of the tree club and threatened retirement from international football due to lack of trophies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Or you could look at what he's done, how many he's scored, how many wpoty he has how many trophies he's won. It's not really a close contest. He's achieved more than maradonna.

How many PL games did C Ronaldo miss through injuries inflicted by opponents?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Cristiano Ronaldo never gets injured. Messi is far more injury prone - especially over the last couple of years.

He struggles against Chelsea

Not against the current version he wouldn't.

It would be cruel seeing him up against Cahill n sideshow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Imagine Cahill trying to deal with Messipoor Gary would have to retire after the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cahill has already faced him and we kept a clean sheet in that game. Luiz was also part of the squad that beat them. I think we'd put up a better fight then most. Barca just seem to struggle against us.

He's padded his stats against weak defenses such as Arsenal and City. Think he only has like 2 goals in 6 vs United and yet to score vs Chelsea and Liverpool.

Looking at WPOTY would be pointless because the award didn't even exist back then and the Ballon d'Or only considered European players.

Looking at what they've achieved in club soccer would be skewed by a few facts - mainly that CL footy is now guaranteed year-in, year-out, whereas Maradona I think got to play the EC twice in his entire career; that Messi reached his achievements as part of a side many consider to have been the best in generations, whereas Maradona faced the competition of precisely the side that vie with Barça for that honour, together with all the other Serie A teams in arguably the strongest league era ever seen on Earth.

And just because the international football side of things doesn't suit your argument, that doesn't mean it can simply be swept under the carpet, more so considering the World Cup was and still is the sport's most prestigious competition.

So yeah, he's scored more gols.

In different eras, systems, and positions.
