Huddersfield Town 1 v 0 Aston Villa

Huddersfield Town v Aston Villa

Tuesday 7th March

7.45 kick off

Right, this is my third attempt to put the thread up. The first time I was told my phone had lost internet connection, the second time it didn't give me the option to publish so I am trying again on my kindle as I can't be bothered to set my laptop up.

After the disappointment of Saturday's defeat to Newcastle we have a chance to quickly get back to winning ways against Villa. I'm sure Villa was one of the favourites for promotion at the start of the season but they are nowhere near the play offs never mind automatic.

However saying that they have won their last three games against Bristol, Derby and Rotherham. Typical, they're finding form just as they're due to play us 😬 In all honesty I didn't think they were a bad side when we played them in August so don't know what went wrong.

We're going into this game on the back of two straight defeats and, to my mind, this game gives us the chance to show we're still hanging in there and aren't going away.

If I was Wagner I would start with the same team as Saturday and just tell them to go out and show what they can do, at speed. I think speed is the key element to our play, we look so much more dangerous when we play with pace.

I don't know too much about Villa's team, does Gestede still play for them? In and amongst writing all these threads I've remembered Lansbury and McCormack play for them but as to the rest I honestly have no idea. Mind you I bet Villa's fans had no idea of our team before this season.

Have Villa ever been to the John Smith's? I believe I've read somewhere that we haven't played them since 1987??? If that's true where have all the years gone and I'm older than I think 😀

My prediction is 3-1 to us with Wells, Kachunga and Quaner (from the bench) scoring. I'm probably totally wrong and it will be Schindler, Hefele and Lowe who score 😀 I don't really care though as long as we get back on track and keep aiming for auto.

C'mon Town we can do this.

He, Mooy, Is very good Wethers. usually.
The issue here, LV & Myself don't see the 'Class' & unquestionable tag 'Playmaker' as being fully correct.

Not once. nowhere. Have we claimed he's Bad, Shiite or rubbish. The claims spoken by the majority are obviously not what LV & I see. That would have to be someone of exceptional qualities.

Wakey did say we are poor at corners.
Come on guys, Who takes the corners ? In the main I think we'd all agree in a general sense, We are poor at set pieces..
Wakey again, "Ask Rob Green" to support his claims in regard to a thunderbolt shot.. A TERRIERIFIC shot,
It's then valid to ask..Was the back pass v Brighton necessary ! oops, We all make mistakes, but that was a nagative. My immediate reaction to that move was 'unnecessary'. Don't give me the garbage about not seeing the whole picture because I'm watching on tv, A class, playmaker would have played a safer option. Examples, as this was asked for previously, Drinkwater or Arfield. Both far quicker in their thinking.
Mooy is good at keeping possession, very good at holding, But the pace of the game is nigh on always slowed down when he's involved. Sometimes that is what is needed, Other times the ball doesn't get delivered to the player breaking through at the right time... we then see a little 180o, another tap, nothing on, And a side ways knock, and none of you can deny,
The ball goes to a team mate equally underpressure in a compromised position. Knocked staright back to Mooy, who then plays in backwards, to end up going across the back four, and they do it all again.
The crowd applaud (?) And I'm thinking we need to get in at 'em through the middle & send Wells/Kachunga onto a through ball they can run onto instead of having their backs to the goals, Wondering when the Ball is going to come .
That's where the exceptional playmaker comes in, As yet, No one fills that requirement at TOWN. And was the glaring problem against the Maggots. That was the one thing missing, A Playmaker of class. We didn't have one on the day.

Drinkwater provides for Vardy & Albrighton .. On a regular basis. And in my opinion is a better player than Mooy. That doesn't mean Mooy is anything close to bad, or shiite. There again, I'd struggle to suggest Drinkwater is out right class.

Part of a good side punching above expectation YES.
But I'm not partaking of the blind faith accolades yet.

Or Silvestri, as it was him in goal that game...

And so ends my pedantry on this thread

Pedantry;

[ped-n-tree]
noun, plural pedantries.
1.
the character, qualities, practices, etc., of a pedant, especially undue display of learning.
2.
slavish attention to rules, details, etc.

I had to Google, as I've never heard this word in my life

So ignore my last link, with the team confirmation etc

Pendantic osis by our mate Champers there
Cherry picking comments again , No acknowledgement of the follow on ...

At 26, he'd better 'make it' sharpish.
The Manchester evening news claimed, less than ....! 1 week after arriving, He was loaned out to TOWN !
Whether he was given a fair crack or not, Our advantage as a club I'd say.. But they didn't dwell on him being an asset too long. Also excellent work by the TOWN adim for having it written in the loan agreement, that after a time period as agreed had lapsed, They (City) couldn't recall him untill the season was over.
hence. The £8.8 mill offer they received in the January window couldn't be acted upon. (Good. Well done TOWN)
What i'd like to know, But will obviously have to wait & see. Has a deal already been arranged & to be enacted come the seasons end ?
Is that also the situation with Wells ?
What then ! surely a mini dilemma as I'm overly confident we'll get promoted.

Just for your information...(all)
After leaving the UK, (Bolton Wanderers & St Mirren) Mooy went back to OZ. Played in the grand final for Western Sydney wanderers, (22yo at this stage) 0-2.
The following season they again made the final..
This time he was a sub. came on at 1-0 up on the hour.
Unfortunately . they also lost that one 2-1 .

he then moved onto Melbourne City. Man City's feeder club darn Unda... Up to the here & now.
21 caps for Australia since 2012.

Keeping all this in context. I think he's moving on regardless. Unless Mr Oil is prepared to smash the club record and splash out .... from our record of £1.8 mill now... to probably £9 mill+

His words now...
""But I've still got a lot to prove - I think I can play more consistently. At the end of the season we will reassess but at the moment I'm just focusing on Huddersfield."

Billing !
'ours'.
19yo.
That's our way forward.

Another perspective, on the subject of 'best player at TOWN I've ever seen' ... hmmm ok. I acknowledge your opinion.
How about this.

One certain Danny Drinkwater tonight competes to qualify for Euro Champ Quarter finals.
19yo when at Town.
Already a Championship winners medal.
Three seasons in the Premier league as of....
And a premier league Champions winners medal.
27 now. And played for England.

Arfield.
Ridiculed at TOWN, (Clearly played out of position & warming the bench - Wasted.)
Was a member of the side that pushed Leicester all the way that promotion season. Was ever present in the relegation season.. But is now back in the top flight again & performing well.
28 yo. 3 promotions under his belt. (1 with TOWN)
he's progressing.

That's two off the top of my head who are better than Mooy in recent times..
Mooy might/should break into the Prem, But as I said, he'll have to look sharp if he's going to pull it off.

Drinkwater maybe better than Mooy right now but he wasn't when playing for Town and Arfield is nowhere near as good.

Listen lads, I respect your opinions but on this occasion I'm afraid you've got it wrong.

Could have had them both in there...it wasn't getting stopped
