Yet another poor renewal by Jose in my book. Let's be honest he's past his use by date and should of been shipped out last summer. Keeping him
On again just takes up squad space.
Another case of us keeping a player on too long who doesn't offer us anything anymore. No, squad experience is not enough.
I'm happy with Jose, one area I'm not is who he is keeping on. Either players who should be nowhere near the club or who's use is over.

Renewing Carrick's contract is a shrewd move IMO.
He won't expect to play too much, he's already having an input at youth level and it may open the door for the much-maligned Fellaini to leave.
We can then expect to sign at least one CM that you'd hope would be a first teamer and go into next season with Carrick, Pogba, Herrera & new MF (x2?) as well as have TFM and Pereira (more AM but in here in my example).
Carrick can be the guy who plays when the main men require a break and also the sub if we need to see games out. But not see games out until we're more than a goal up please Jose!

As long as Jose buys a top CM this summer there is no issue at all having Carrick there.
He'll be there to play the weaker sides at home where there is no pressure on him at all to rest the younger, better players

That meant to read there's no pressure on Carrick in these games against the smaller sides.
And those games will be where the younger, better players will be rested

Can only think of Fabregas who is a better regular substitute CM in the league.

No issue with Carrick staying on. He's still a class act and we're short of senior figures at the club if Rooney and Zlatan leave.
His name has never relied on being dynamic either, and his positioning, reading of the game and passing are still as good as anyone's.
Mourinho does need to make sure he brings in a quality first team replacement though - we can't have a situation like under Fergie were we were still quite reliant on Giggs and Scholes as first teamers rather than as options from the bench.

Totally disagree with OP.
Even when he was brought on yesterday , he gives that added bit of class in midfield. Calmness, composure, experience and great passing ability.
