Not sure how our squad is with the homegrown rule and can't be bothered to check. But I reckon if we got rid of all the players you want us to Stretty, we'd be cutting it pretty fine.

So we keep them for the sake of the home grown rule as oppose to their quality?

Well it's a factor that has to be considered whether you like it or not. Personally of all our English contingent i'd get rid of Rooney and Jones.

Carrick, yeah he's past it - but I dont think keeping him on is of detriment to the squad.

I think Carrick has been vastly overrated entering into his latter years, as Scholes was and no doubt he will get elevated when he retires as Scholes did but the problem you have is that he still looks your best midfielder when he plays. He will be used less but he can do a handy job when need be.

No he doesn't. Herrera and Pogba are miles better.

It is if he plays.

No it isn't. Stop acting as if he has been abysmal this season because he really hasn't.

Scholes was a world class player and was rated by many of his world class fellow pros such as zidane, Xavi, etc etc.
Typical thick scouser

He hasn't been good enough and isn't good enough for a team hoping to compete.

If you like 6th place then yes, he's fine.

Pogba is woeful in many games, in other's the game just passes him by. Although I do think he'll improve a lot. I don't see the fuss with Herrara. He always looks busy but doesn't actually do much, does he contribute much defensively? Offensively? He's sort of good at everything but excellent at nothing. The Spanish Joe Allen.

Carrick is the most underrated player in the world. Everyone I've ever talked to rates him really highly, which just shows how underrated he is.

Exactly Barry.

Carrick isn't the problem. We could easily sign 2 more midfielders and keep him in the squad as a bit part player.

As I said Stretty, if tomorrow we got rid of all the players you want us to, we probably wouldn't be eligible to compete in this league.

I think if you had a Kante type next to Pogba and Mata or Mkhitarian ahead of them your midfield would be much better.

herrera's defensive stats this season have been comparable to kante's...he may actually have a better future at united as a pure defensive midfielder

You know you are some player if Guardiola comes to hug you and speaks fondly of you in interviews. We are talking here about a man that has coached arguably the two best cms in the past 15 years

happy with carrick renewing

but we desperately need a Kane, Costa, Aguero or Sanchez sort of player to hit 20 goals consistently over a few season

Ibra was nice but we need mobility up front and consistent goals

Steve gerrard use to be a good midfielder also.

Renewing Carrick's contract is a shrewd move IMO.

He won't expect to play too much, he's already having an input at youth level and it may open the door for the much-maligned Fellaini to leave.

We can then expect to sign at least one CM that you'd hope would be a first teamer and go into next season with Carrick, Pogba, Herrera & new MF (x2?) as well as have TFM and Pereira (more AM but in here in my example).

Carrick can be the guy who plays when the main men require a break and also the sub if we need to see games out. But not see games out until we're more than a goal up please Jose!

posted on 18/5/17

As long as Jose buys a top CM this summer there is no issue at all having Carrick there.

He'll be there to play the weaker sides at home where there is no pressure on him at all to rest the younger, better players

posted on 18/5/17

That meant to read there's no pressure on Carrick in these games against the smaller sides.

And those games will be where the younger, better players will be rested

posted on 18/5/17

Can only think of Fabregas who is a better regular substitute CM in the league.

How about showing Michael Carrick some respect, I hate our spoilt fanbase at times, They do my head in.
