United are facing up to another season in the Championship after falling at the final hurdle at the Supersoaker stadium in Hamilton in the play-off final.
The sad truth is that we didn't deserve to win the tie and to put it quite simply Hamilton are a better team than we are.
That's not saying much - I thought they were murder - but we just aren't very good. If there is any silver lining it's the fact that if we had gone up we'd get murdered every week because this is as poor a Dundee United team as I've known.
We had very little about us yesterday. The manager apparently put it down to tiredness but then you have to ask why he didn't use his bench. It was incredible that he didn't utilise his subs, only putting Scott Fraser onto the pitch (and having Nicholls stripped and ready for what seemed like 10 minutes then not putting him on).
The manager deserves a lot of criticism for yesterday. His tactics, a midfield diamond, simply didn't work and he didn't look to change it until it was far too late. We kept lumping long balls up to Mikkelsen but we weren't winning the second balls. Murray and Andreu were never in the game and we had no width to our play so Telfer and Spittal were completely missed out.
The tactics have been poor for most of the season and the manager needs to improve if he wants to stay in a job. I wouldn't sack him now - for a start we can't afford it - but it needs to be much better than what we've seen this season.
It was hard to bare, especially given the way our fans got behind the team and travelled in good numbers, outnumbering the home fans (who couldn't even sell out the one stand they had ffs).
The rebuilding starts now and hopefully this is the last we've seen of a number of the players we saw yesterday. My understanding is that only Bell, Edjenguele, Durnan, Donaldson (ffs), Fraser and Toshney are still under contract for next season. I'm not sure if any of those who are out of contract will get new deals. I'm not sure they deserve it. And to be frank of those remaining I'd like to get rid of Edge, Donaldson and Toshney.
I'm glad the season has ended. I just hope next season is better because to be frank it needs to be.

Surprisingly rosey picture being painted by the Courier given the circumstances.
Which must be a disappointment to our Bear friends.
I'm looking forward to the signings being made and finding out which of our youth players will be in the first team - Ballantyne and Sukar might come in. Maybe Smith. Allardice will hopefully progress too.

Hopefully Dailly instils a bit of fitness work on the players. His fitness regime was incredible as a player.
