Favourites and dark horses for US Open?

So US Open starts from 28 August 2017 and its a mixed field in men and more so in women with so many top players not playing due to injuries and other issues. In men,if Federer is fully fit he is going to be favourite and even if he 80 per cent fit he still has got a good chance of winning the title. Then there is Rafael Nadal whose hard court form post Wimbledon has been poor to say the least. He is the other favourite though despite that but the most he will do is reach the semi-final this year.As for Wawrinka,Djokovic and Murray they are all out due to injuries and surgeries. So its a golden chance for Nadal to win a Grand Slam other than French Open.In the dark horses,we have to consider former champion Marin Cilic who has got the ability to win it.Also Nick Kyrgios and Zverev have also got the talent to win the tournament as well as other players like Dmitrov and Thiem who is my favourite youngster.Sadly Tsonga and Del Porto won't win this tournament though they have got the ability to do so.I know that Del Porto won it in 2009.As for women, the best tennis player of all time Serena Williams isn't playing due to her pregnancy and Victoria Azarenka is also absent due to family problems. As for favourites, it has to be Muguruza who should win the tournament on talent and strokes alone. Also Halep and Kvitova as well as Kerber are also favourites based on ability and ground strokes.Sloane Stephens and Maria Sharapova are dark horses for winning this title.Johanna Konta is also one of the outsiders with enough talent and ability to win this title. As for other players such as Ostapenko she also can be a threat.Does anyone agree with me? Fellow tennis fans?

Sloanne Stephens is a worthy US Open 2017 champion and she is hot as well!

Well played Nadal 👍, proved how ridiculous the bottom half of the draw was.

At least Nadal has won a Grand Slam other than the French Open.

Nadal has been amazing this year and if he continues this form, I finally accept that he probably will break Federer's Grand Slam record.

I just wish there was a bit more fight by the other players. Same thing happened at Wimbledon and the French Open.

I've said it before but this is a poor era in mens tennis. It's great that two legends are winning grandslams and no doubt Djokovic will be back at it next year along with Murray but the rest of the field has been poor for a decade.

Kash do you think that Djokovic will be fully fit to compete to the best of his ability for Australian Open 2018?

Yes, more than just a poor era (players born 1989 or later)

Having 32 seeds was never a good idea in my opinion, you are usually most vulnerable in the first round, playing someone outside the top 32 has made it easier for top players to dominate more.

Surfaces have also changed. No longer do you have to be able to volley to win Wimbledon. Lendl did everything in his power to win Wimbledon, but the surface didn't suit his game, he was never particularly good at net and never won Wimbledon. Nowadays, if you are not good at net, have no fear, the courts will slow down to help you. They had a youtube clip years ago about the difference in speed from Wimbledon 2003 and 2008 and it was staggering.

I also think Masters Finals should be 5 sets. Zverev has won two Masters but still seems to struggle to win any moderately tough best of 5 match.

Grand slams are becoming more and more laughable, yes it's great to see Fed, Nadal and Djokovic break record after record after record, but their records really need to be put into some perspective considering all of the factors above.

A poor open imo. Too many absentees and out of form players. Schedules need looking at as playing all year has taken a toll on even the fittest players.
