Konta is Kont-ered!

She is out,

Ferrer out too, he was playing well recently, another pretty big shock.

Halep out.

I really think she may struggle in Grand Slams. It was a tough draw but you want to be winning these kinds of matches if have aspirations to win multiple slams.

Yep. Truly pathetic from Simona tbh

I never expected Maria to come through

I always find the draw for these slams baffling. If Murray did withdraw, why does Cilic have to take his place and not Federer. Not that it should matter, because I am sure Federer can handle a tough draw.

But I do feel sorry for some younger players, i have found very often, very decent young players get drawn early with Del Potro or even a big 4 player, whilst journeymen get a relatively easier draw. I hope it's just bad luck, but it has been happening too often for my liking.

The best way to prevent this of course is for younger players to improve their ranking, so A Zverev does and he gets Coric in the 2nd Round, yet Muller gets Lorenzi.

Maybe because organisers want big players playing against big players and don't want big names to lose against decent players so they get big matches as money spinners like Nadal v Federer as a semi-final in Flushing Meadows.

Though I don't mean to say that the organisers are rigging these matches.

Another one bites the dust: Kerber is Kerb-erbbed.

Yea, the draw is all sort of wack.

Can't believe Zverev and Kyrgios are knocked out. I had a bad feeling about Zverev getting Coric in R2 and Kyrgios has been absolutely abysmal at slams recently.

Rublev is now facing Dmitrov, 2 more exciting players having to meet up early, meanwhile Lorenzi will play Fabbiano.

Same here. The terrible slam records of the 'new generation' continues. Depressing really.

And Maria's continues to shriek her way onwards...

Maria Sharapova is hot though like Sloanne Stephens.

Now Dmitrov and Berdych out.

After watching Nadal and Fed in their 1st Round matches, neither looked great, it was looking like both would struggle to reach the semis, but all seeds seem to be falling around them.

Not much of a slam with all the absentees and looming injuries. Federer struggling against a guy who has not won a set off him for 17 years.

posted on 31/8/17

Yep Nadal and Fed are not looking special at all (though Nadal is looking better than Fed) as i suggested weeks ago, it could be a case of the last man standing.

There could be a maiden slam winner.

posted on 31/8/17

Fed went through. I think it is a matter of time before Fed is knocked out tbh.

Not impressive at all

Red write off Federer at your own peril.

Nadal doing his best to lose versus an unknown Japanese player.

Yeah, i am aware of not writing of Fed but when was the last time he started off a slam with two consecutive five set matches?

Also, age doesn't lie. If he were a decade younger, but he isn't and i am reasonably certain his back is flaring up. Still he says 'it is fun'- though i suspect it is just to gear himself up.

Neither he nor Nadal are playing well. An inspired confident player could definitely put them out without too much trouble. Which would be my preference.

Oh and i stand corrected with regards to Pliskova, i definitely think she could win it. She has impressed me more and more and i quite like her game

So Coric did nothing after his big win, typical. Got comfortably beaten by Anderson who ironically has been recently getting battered by Zverev.

At least Shapovalov has made the 2nd week.

posted on 1/9/17

Yep, and the fact that there is not a single slam finalist on the opposite side of the draw further makes a mockery of the draw!!

This really is anyone's slam.

Shapovalov seems to be serious business! Then again, there have been so many false dawns.

John Isner has been eliminated sadly.

Kvitova vs Muguruza should be a good match-up

Not IMO. Very limited game.

Besides the older Zverev had beaten him twice already this year including the AO.

What is obvious is how sad Isner's game is: you knew exactly what Zverev would do -keep rushing to the net and put Isner off his game, yet Isner had no counter.

I know Isner is not brilliant but I have enjoyed watching him play just like I used to like Verdasco's game few years ago but he didn't win anything.I thought Isner might go far with his strong serve. Now after Nadal,Thiem is my favourite player who can win US Open this time around.
