Game of Thrones - Finale (Spoilers)

***************************************************************************************************************************************

Thought there may have been a thread on this already but couldn't see one.

This was, in my view, a top 3 episode (along with Baelor and Battle of the Bs)

I know there are fans out there who like to see huge battles but for me, Game of Thrones is at its best when it puts his focus on the narrative and the character arcs.

This one had it all, tension, plotting, deception, murder, romance, reveals, twists and just when you thought it was going to end with Sansa and Arya talking atop Winterfell - we got the Night King swooping in on Viserion to take down the wall which had stood for thousands of years.

It was the perfect finale for me and I'm going to admit it, I didn't see the Littlefinger twist coming at all. Watching it back for a second time it's obvious but just shows you how good the writing is on this show.

Back to it's very best - Shame about the huge wait for the showdown in season 8.

What did everyone else think about the episode?

Enjoy your Morning lads

No idea how they're going to finish this in 6 episodes. This series felt rushed, but taking on the dead should be a season in itself, followed by another for the politics and battles over the iron throne....unless of course the dead win?

Been hoping for that since season 3 ended

Think some people just want to dislike it because it's become so popular.

The series did feel rushed, but surely everybody has still enjoyed it?

I'm at the walking dead 2 seasons ago stage where I don't really enjoy it anymore but am sticking with it to see how it ends. The difference is I had to stop viewing the walking dead because of how awful it was.

Walking Dead was a little different in that it was good for 3 seasons, then you realise it's pretty much the same thing every episode.

"way too much over thinking in a world of witches, dragons, and zombies

Incorrect. The ability to think things through and for it to make sense within that world was GoT biggest strength. Now it's fallen apart because of shlt writing."

Exactly. I hate fantasy chit about dragons etc and I can't stand LOTR, for example. The reason I loved GoT was because it was so much more than that. The tension, the clever plot lines, dialogue and twists. What made the show unique was its ability to be so believable and grown-up despite being set in a fantasy world. Now it is just a fantasy action show with no real intelligence to it at all.

"Thought the first 4/5 episodes of this season were better than those in S5/6 (except BofBs), but the penultimate episode was abhorrent and this finale disappointed too. "

I completely agree with that assessment. While I am being critical, I did think that episodes 1-4 of this season were the best we have seen since the show overtook the books at the end of season 4. Sure, it was mostly fan service and glorious action but at least it was done quite well (and was entertaining).

The last 2 episodes have been just plain silly. A new low imo...

Think that's just you! Why should someone else's enjoyment of the show have any bearing on my own?

______________

On the whole, yes. But episodes 6 and 7 have been chit and disappointing respectively imo.

I do think that a bit too, a lot of people im sure are genuinely getting tired of it but it seems over the past decade the cool thing to do is hating on something that is supposed to be and really is great just to say im one of the few that dnt like this great thing like how smart I am

The penultimate episode this season annoyed the t!ts off me, but I'm still enjoying it. With the battle scenes coming fast fast and furious it has become more of a feast for the eyes, rather than cerbral political intrigue and character development which made it such compelling viewing.

The action scenes still make it a must watch as does finding out how it will pan out, but this season has felt rushed and lacking depth. The sheer scale of the story required 10 episodes this would have allowed more context and less time travelling.

The finale didn't disappoint. The Night King bobbing up and down on the Dragon made me laugh, but that was nothing compared to how miffed I was when Uncle Bengy appeared out of nowhere to rescue Jon.

and btw who would want more character development after 7 series? that's what the 1st 5-6 series set out and did really well, we know the characters really well now so there's not much more development that can be done, apart from sansa this year most of it has revolved around the action which it has been building towards for the last 7 years
