Canelo vs Golovkin Live Fight Thread!!!

On September 16, two of the best boxers on the planet go toe to toe in arguably the most anticipated match up since Mayweather vs Pacquiao. The middleweight king Gennady Golovkin defends his WBC,IBF and WBA titles against the biggest PPV star in boxing, Canelo Alvarez. At stake is middleweight supremacy and the top pound for pound spot whilst pride will be something both men fight to keep intact. Canelo's countering punching ability and ever improving boxing skills are pitted against Golovkin's supernatural power and machine like efficiency. Mexican style vs Mexican American style, who will come out on top in this potential all time middleweight classic?

As Golovkin and Canelo compete for 3 world titles, Billy Joe Saunders is also set to defend the 4th middleweight title against Willie Monroe Jr on the same night. September 16 promises to be an eventful day for the middleweight division not to mention Callum Smith vs Erik Skoglund, which will take place on the same night on ITV4 free.

If you are a boxing fan, cancel all prior engagements and clear your schedule for a potentially memorable night of boxing on September 16.

Thoughts And Predictions?

Official Prediction:
It's a contest that can go either way but I think Golovkin will edge it. The size and familiarity Golovkin has at 160 is something Canelo does not and ultimately the physical strength and pressure will tell. I see Canelo being very competitive early on, countering with the right and slipping and shooting with the left to the body and uppercut. Golovkin will pump the jab but his pressure will be tempered by the clean shots from Canelo. Both men will be looking to go to the body and I expect this fight to have some stunning exchanges with Canelo coming off the worse, especially late on. As they reach the halfway mark, I think Canelo will be leading 4 rounds to 2 but as he slows from Golovkin's bodywork, the fight will open up. This is where Golovkin will capitalise and increase the amount of pressure, utilising a very active jab and mixing in hooks and big right hands behind it. Canelo will struggle to keep the bigger and stronger man off him and the weight of Golovkin's punches and volume will take its toll. I think Canelo will find himself on the ropes in the last few rounds and Golovkin will unleash numerous barrages but Canelo's durability should hold up under the intense scrutiny. Ultimately, Golovkin's early pressure and body work will set him up to dominate in the latter stages and earn a close decision victory and solidify his status as the best middleweight on the planet.

I'd like to see Saunders get knocked out by Danny Jacobs.

See Glen McRory is having a meltdown on twitter accusing anyone who doesn't, or hasn't boxed, that they should shut up and have no opinion on the sport

Must be back on the sauce.

There was a guy on ESB who I was accquainted with from the old BBC 606 forum, a guy called D4thincarnation, who was an absolute spiv of a Pacquiao fan. He argued that plastered wraps were actually safer for boxers, and that Pacquiao was a latino or hispanic fighter. Proper knobhead.

the Philippines was owned by spain for centuries...Filipinos can claim to be part of the "hispanidad".....spanish culture and identity

latino refers to latin americans though
