Forest V Tractor Boys Match Thread

Ipswich sit a full 10 points above us in the table yet have parted company somewhat abruptly with their manager Mick McCarthy, after I think 5 1/2 years in charge. Town sold a couple of their better players two season's ago and haven't been in the top six since, much to the disgruntlement of the fans, who have got their wish with Mick's departure.

Could he be managing Derby next season?

Ipswich Town striker Joe Garner will miss the rest of the Championship season because of a minor skull fracture behind the ear.

It follows a clash of heads in the draw with Sheffield United on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has also been carrying a knee injury and will have surgery on a shoulder problem on Monday.

"He said he was feeling dizzy in the dressing room on Tuesday and we checked him over and pulled him out of the game," said club physio Matt Byard.

He told the club website: "It's a small fracture but it is affecting his balance and co-ordination. He doesn't need an operation and it will settle down fine but he needs six to eight weeks off and that means the end of the season."

Garner joined Ipswich from Rangers last summer, scoring 10 goals in 32 appearances this term, and joins fellow forward David McGoldrick on the sidelines.

"It's a real blow. It's been a blow missing him, it's been a blow having him for the last six to eight weeks not being fully fit and mobile," boss Mick McCarthy told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"He's been wheeling himself out and doing it for the good of the team, which is very selfless."

Since Micks abrupt departure Town have appointed Bryan Klug until the seasons end.

Ipswich Town caretaker boss Bryan Klug says it "breaks his heart" to hear of a disconnect between the club and fans.

Klug is head of coaching and player development and will take charge of their last four games this season.

Mick McCarthy left the club on Tuesday and when his exit was first announced in March, he claimed some "numbskull" fans had ruined home games this season.

Asked about the gulf between supporters and the club, Klug said: "It's really sad, it's really concerning."

He told BBC Radio Suffolk: "Even at academy level it's started to affect our recruitment, and that's never happened before, but that's the past.

"I've lived in the town 40 years now so I know what the club means to everybody and it breaks your heart to hear."

Can Forest break their duck against Town? Marcus Tudgay scored a fabulous goal against Town some years ago to halt our goal famine, will lightening strike twice in the same fixture?

Yes, it was along the same lines as Majewski’s goal at WBA that time.

Slightly different potions in the league though we were when they were scored.

I can't believe raddy's goal was seven years ago

I’ve just about thawed out. It was -8 that evening at the Hawthorns.

Well, I said had a weirdly good feeling about yesterday although 80 minutes in I wasn't feeling as confident.

The first and last 15 were good spells, but being distinctly cr"p for 60+ minutes is fairly alarming. Yesterday is a great account of how we need to improve for next season.

Fullbacks are poor. Osborn got man of the man but thats definitely not for his defensive performance. The ipswitch no18 was inexplicably sh!te, and spent most of the game shepparding his team mates passes out of play under no pressure whatsoever. Sods law that he'd get smacked with the ball and before he's even known the ball has hit him, it trickles in. Poor defending.

Watson and Gueddy were both poor and both gave away possession all too readily. For Watson it was very much an off day but I haven't seen anything from Gueddy since he arrived that even remotely resembles first team material.

Brereton has the skills to be a good striker but the team as a whole needs to improve, and Brereton needs to be smarter. If you looked at ben in isolation, you'd think we was playing off a target man, but he's not and it leaves us short changed upfront. Not that vellios did much, but purely having two upfront really helped Brereton and if we're going to stick with him, we might have to stick with two upfront.

New fullbacks, a target man for Brereton to play off (An Early-doors Murphy would be perfect), and a pacey midfielder or two and we could be fairly competitive next season.

Guedioura has been disappointing but on a free it is worth a gamble. Hoping for an improvement from him with a full pre-season.
Watson has taken the captain’s armband and the responsibility must be weighing heavily. He will expect Forest to show some ambition in the summer after giving up a Prem place at Watford.

Osborn was MOTM as he was one who was being positive and trying to make things happen. As a midfielder playing at full back, I am not surprised he is trying to stick close to the nearest centre half, Fox, for some back up. He knows he can’t go man marking wingers as he will get out-muscled and shredded.

He has still made more appearances at left back than Armand “Fraud” Traore has for Cardiff, though!

Osborn did deserve his MOTM to be fair as he created a lot including that 1on1, and as a stop gap full back, he’s done well. Arguably better than darikwa who is a right back by trade.

But if we want to be competitive we need players that can both defend, and whip a ball in. I think lichajs the only fullback at the club that can do that and even then, good wingers skin him.

There isn’t a full back in the world that doesn’t get skinned once in a while. Lichaj is a better man marker than anyone else in the squad. Depends what Karanka wants as Darikwa is definitely a more potent attacker but less sure footed defending.
