The story being briefed tonight by the club to the papers is that United actually had £100m tucked away for an 'elite' centre back, someone in the class and age of Varane, but since that was never gonna happen Ed decided to reject the short term fixes Mourinho had in mind.

It's possible... it's also possible that the story broke from an online source and everyone copied it.... which is standard, these days.

Why won't you let us enjoy this?
The story answers a lot of questions we have asked here and we all know Ed is not above doing this. Appearances matter to him (which in itself is a problem we have to face later)
We have money and have been willing to spending stupidly for a while now, so only reason a clearly agitated Jose has not gotten a new centreback!!! (3rd in 3 years) is because they have refused to pay foolishly for his choice.
Can you come up with another logical reason?

Am i missing something or is this just complete hearsay by a journo?
Posters seem to be treating it like a club statement
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My thoughts initially too but there are some "comments" in the article that look "tactically" placed by a press officer about Woodwards views.

Yes... papers like to make money
It may well be a leak... i just wondered if I'd missed something, as everyone was speaking like it was a press release

Someone tell him he could have bought an elite left back with that money instead.

Finally the club remembers what we are about. He has spent ridiculous amounts of money and cannot get the best out of what he's bought.
Quite pleased about the club's stance on Martial and Pogba too. These are players that will take this club to the next level and they are being stifled by this donkey of a manager.
Good job Ed and the board;

Ed needs to go too.
The fact that he sanctioned a deal of 380k a week for Sanchez is beyond stupidity.
It will bite us big time that with new signings

Ed and anyone else associated with the Jose appointment need to be relieved of all football making decisions

THE NEXT LEVEL
Pogba is utter crap for us and martial, well lets face it that bloke barely does anything.
Hilarious.

I'm actually happy with the lack of transfer business.
Jose isn't going to last and the exec has realised throwing more money at ageing players for a manager who will be replaced shortly wasn't good business sense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pity that’s the only good business sense ed has. He’s really facked us for the future by idiotically giving Sanchez a ridiculous wage.
Ed should be nowhere near the football side of things he’s clearly not capable
