If true, then the meltdown is inevitable this season.

Fantastic!

I can't wait for you to turn on him like a pack of rabid dogs. He's a dislike able cockwease, so for once I'm on your side

If this is true then surely the club can see why so many fans want a DoF? Also in what capacity can Woodward judge the quality of football players and does this mean he only wants to spend money on big expensive names? I agree that I don’t think Maguire is what we need but is that for the Chief Exective to decide?

Separate to the CB issue, what was the reason we didn’t go for fullbacks and a RW? Was it the same reason as above in which case what is the point of having scouts at the club?

It all sounds like a mess to me.

IMO Jose (and all United managers) have a budget that the likes of Pep don’t seem to have

I think from this story we can deduce that Woodward is our DOF, CEO, contract negotiator and commercial extraordinaire. He's basically Batman.

Surely there were fullbacks out there worth pursuing. LB situation is a joke.

Well if it is true then its the beginning of the end. Jose won't have the board deciding who should and should not come in and rightly so. Why would you want some jumped up board member deciding who you should be buying.

btw I'm with the club on not wanting to spend stupid amounts of money on old crocked centre backs with no resale value. And £70m on Harry fecking Maguire would be beyond ludicrous.

Absolutely stupid isn't it? Right wing and the full back positions have not been strengthened at all. We're relying on a 19 year old kid to boot Valencia out of the team.

Even if Jose does go at the end of this season the club need to sort out how they do business as Woodward seems to be obsessed with only superstars

If true he should've been sacked as soon as last season ended.

Back him or sack him. This halfway game the board seem to have been playing this summer sets us back in both the short and long term.

Mourinho on Pogba: "My perception? He arrived Monday, happy, proud, a desire to work. He worked amazingly well Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, he's one of the players that I have to speak to see how physically and mentally he feels.”

Mourinho on Martial: “He's in the group of players who didn't have a pre-season, it's as simple as that. You try to make a case and there is no case on it. For nine days he didn't train. so he's to start again.”

Mourinho on Martial: “When you are nine days without one minute of training or football, you go back and start with the other people. There is no story.”

Tommy

True but Woodward is largely responsible for us having to spend such high fees these days. It’s all well and good saying so now but maybe he should have thought that before. I’m confused, if he doesn’t trust Jose (which is fair enough) then sack him. Why keep him and not let him get the players he wants, or at least seem to have a scouting network who can identify other options for the club?

Already looking forward to the next manager. Just going to try and enjoy the season best I can. Zero expectations so they may surprise us, who knows.

No way is he going to be the manager this time next year. I don't think many people believe he will be, even you Robb if you're honest.

This is the first time I'm seeing a story on Ed putting his foot down on who the manager chooses to buy as well. It's a big mess.

I'm actually happy with the lack of transfer business.

Jose isn't going to last and the exec has realised throwing more money at ageing players for a manager who will be replaced shortly wasn't good business sense.

Yeah 1982, it's also making me question Jose's authority within the club too.

Dalot can play LB.

Tbh very few clubs have managers that last over 3 years. With city being so imperious I’m not sure what Jose can do to get a season 4 - maybe win the CL which is doubtful.

I’m genuinely relaxed about the whole thing. I rate jose more than most on here but I won’t be too upset if he goes because that’s life. I do think the next guy has a huge job on his hands though.

Not necessarily, with no viable candidates out there to replace him it is logical to accept a likely lack of short term success until options open up. Stick some duct tape and plasters on the squad and hope Jose can coax top 4 out of what is already an expensively assembled and paid squad.

And what happens if our next manager wants a player that Woodward doesn’t agree on? It’s a joke.

I don’t have an issue with fans raising issues about Jose and wanting him gone but I’m seriously worried about Woodward at this club if this is true, seems to have no real plan of what he wants at all?

would rather a left footer play there, had enough of Young constantly cutting in. The team needs balance.

If the club are going to play it this way with the transfer window, which I can understand, then they should have just got rid of Mourinho months ago.

Do they not realise how volatile he is when situations like this happen? The last thing we needed going into the season is this dark cloud hanging over the club.

Money spent in this summer transfer window,

Jose £74 mill
Pep £64 mill

It does seem to be a bit a silver lining for us. The next manager isn't going to inherit another 30 year old player he may not want and we won't have wasted another £60-70m.

Poch or Zidane and £200-250m to spend next summer could be fun.
