Now that we are facing the reality of a club on the verge of a crisis, who are the realistic options to take over the club should we get rid of Jose mid-season?
I've said for some time Mo Po gets my vote, and if we were to hire off season maybe we'd be an option for him (maybe not, I don't know), but certainly not mid-season.
Currently the order of favourites are;
Zidane
Conte
Blanc
Jardim
Pochettino
Allegri
Deschamps
Rafa
Southgate
Rodgers
Howe
I think we can safely rule out Rodgers, Rafa, Southgate and Poch.
I'll be honest and say I don't have a huge amount of knowledge around some of the candidates, but Poch and Zidane would get me excited.
Realistic Managerial Options

No way Rafa lowers himself to manage your mob
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He managed you... Can't be that fussy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's lived the dream mate.
He's way to classy for united
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All rivalry stuff aside... Think he's too close to Jose tactically these days... Be more of the same
Would never happen anyway thank fook

What would United fans think of Conte?
Appeared to chuck it second season when the board didn't back him but first season at Chelsea was special.
Transformed a team in the dumps post Jose....

Thanks Melton! That's one fewer reservation.

Why has nobody mentioned Diego Simeone?

Surely whoever we have in mind for the DoF role will have to have a big say on the type of manager we would want to bring in if/when Jose leaves?
I feel that maybe a interim coach for the rest of the season with no real pressure or expectations would be a more sensible option which would then allow us more time in getting both a manager and DoF who can work together well.
I'm not really sure about Zidane even though he did an incredible job at Real and don't really see why we would take the job in all honesty.

I actually think Howe would be a great shout. Worked wonders at Bournemouth, plays great football which United are craving, and if it’s true that united are desperate for a DOF, then he’d be perfect as he is more of a coach than a manager.
I really actually think he’d be a superb option for united.

Thing is Utd don't take risks on players or managers. They would never have taken Poch from Southampton for example, but would gladly have him from Spurs. Likewise they'd never take Howe from B'mouth, but if the same Howe had a couple of very good years at Spurs or Arsenal they'd be all over him. They'd rather pay astronomical transfer, compensation and agent fees than scout efficiently and take risks.

Agreed, but i think that’s in part due to them being burned over moysey.
Howe would be great though. I think united need to take a step back to take a leap forward. Get Howe in, give him time to build a squad and get them playing how he wants and in a couple seasons they will be a wicked side again. It’s not like united need champions league football to attract big players, the name and the money is more than enough.
A couple of years of fixing the mess that started even before Fergie left is needed, the papering over cracks isn’t solving anything, it’s just keeping them in limbo of just doing enough to stay in the top four but not playing good football or really challenging for the league.

Howe is well known for not wanting to move though, isn't he?
Can't seem him relocating to Manchester.
