The Simpsons

A classic show which has long since past its expiry date - about 20 seasons too many to be honest.

the first 8 seasons or so though, absolute gold.

my favourite episode has to be the one where sideshow bob escapes and they get put in the witness protection programme, the bit with the rakes, just superb.

Favourite moment - when homer tries to jump springfield gorge and fails miserably.

Quote - The bold ralph wiggum when approached by lisa and superintendent chalmers - "Hi Lisa, Hi Super Nintendo Chalmers!"

classics.

I watched a couple of new episodes recently and really enjoyed them. Some very funny moments.

But it's hard to put your finger on why it's not the same as it was. Sometimes it feels like the characters are somehow too conscious of themselves, and of what's expected of them, eg Homer is too ready to be Homer. Sometimes it feels a bit rushed too. But neither explanation seems adequate.

On a side note, it's unsettling that Homer hasn't aged in the 20+ years I've been watching the show, and so I am now older than he is

Best Episode - You Only Move Twice
Best Moment - Skinner and the Superintendent
Best Quote - "A garage? A garage!? Oh-lah-dee-dah Mr Frenchman."
"Well what do you call it?"
"A car hole."

Also some of the cleverer ones I didn't get as a kid, like with Smithers & Burns.
“What's wrong, sir? Did I get some in your eyes? The shampoo specifically said ‘No more tears’.”
''A lovely promise, but one beyond the powers of a mere shampoo.”

Kamp Krusty is another great episode. The drove a dump truck full of money up to my house. I'm not made of stone.

Yes! That was one of the other ones I only got as an adult. Fantastically deadpan. Any modern show would have to hang on that line for a minute so the audience knew how clever the writers were, but classic Simpsons just slipped it in there.

American Dad is far better than Family Guy.

The Simpsons is the daddy though.

Yeah I used to be a big American dad fan but some of the more recent stuff just seems like the writers got high and wrote whatever random crap they felt like at the time.

South Park is the only cartoon that hasn't seemed to lose it's touch.
