Lukaku: United treated me badly

"They have to find somebody,"

"It is Pogba, it is me or it is Alexis. It's the three of us all the time. For me, I just see it in many ways."

"A lot of people don't think I should be part of that system," Lukaku added. "That's my feeling from the conversations that I have, I just know.

"For me, the thing that makes me laugh a lot is... how the hell is s*** going bad in my team, but when I play in my national team, it's good? And I'm happy.

"I didn't play the last six weeks of the league, like the last three weeks or something before the end of the season and then I had another three weeks off before I had to play for the national team, and then we go and play with the Belgium team and... rollin' and I was there.

"And nobody there complains because I think the perception in my country is changing slightly. A lot of people were saying a lot of stuff. For me it took years for a lot of people to change their perception. Man U might not get that time. It's s***** that it happens like that.

"When I go and play for my country, we play the style of play that we want to play probably with Man United and I do well over there.

"So is it me? Four goals in the World Cup, three weeks ago I scored three goals in two games, and before that we played Switzerland and Iceland in September and I scored four goals in two games. I've scored 48 goals for my country.

"OK we all know that international soccer is different than club football but the playing style we play in the national team is the one we want to play at Man United.

"So is it me? Or do we need to have a conversation from man to man and tell each other the rules?"

"I think a lot of stuff has been said, where I didn't feel protected," Lukaku added. "A lot of rumours, 'Rom is going to go there, they don't want Rom' and nobody came out and shot it down."

"If you're happy, you find a way, it doesn't matter if you're on the bench or starting. But nobody told me that was the situation, so I thought for two-three weeks to analyse, see all this **** coming out in the media. Who leaks it? Not me. Not my agent. I see it on my phone come out of nowhere

"I told them it's not good for me to be at a place where I'm not wanted. We're not stupid. They consider us dumb, but we are not dumb, we know who is doing leaks and stuff. I told them, you can't be working like this, it’s better for me to go now."

So he claims he was singled out and then names two other players, one of whom has been possibly the worse signing in the clubs history.

He claims he could play in the system Ole has set up at United as that's the way he thinks Belgium play.

He also accuses the Club of leaking news about him leaving despite he himself saying/posting things that would lead the press to speculate he wants to leave.

I think MEN user MickyFinn put it well:
"My impression of Lukaku is that he lacked self awareness, always had an over inflated ego and a falsely high opinion of his own ability, he’s going a long way to proving that with these comments.

Here he is, boasting about scoring goals against Switzerland and Iceland, but scoring against fodder is his thing. I’ve seen Belgium play without Lukaku, they’re a better team without having to carry him and his many limitations.

Any criticism aimed at him was fair, considering it was mostly because of his fitness, laziness, or poor first touch."

Lingard should be seen in the same vein as O'Shea and Fletcher or Park. Good squad player or water carrier type. The issue is that he gets to play far too much due to not having better players or players suited to the role required.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This - comparing Lingard to Park and Fletcher is no slight at all as those two were fantastic for United. The problem with Lingard in this respect is twofold: first, like you say, he’s having to play more often and in a weaker overall side than those two did; second, we’re playing him in a role that calls for more creativity than he can provide, as was evident on Monday.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
lingard does not deserve to be compared to players who dominated cl semi finals and played key roles in title winning seasons. park and fletcher did that.

As I said, he’s playing in a much weaker team. We’ve still won a few trophies in his time, e.g. the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. He scored in both those finals.

the pl is full of players who have played in worse teams than lingard has, who have done much better by any metric.

ten assists in his entire pl career at 26, after 120 odd games. all the while playing for a top six team as an attacker. It's pathetic.

at this point he should be seen in the same vein as kleberson or djemba-djemba. if we are being kind maybe anderson.

certainly not united heroes like park or fletcher.

Idiotic comment there. Neither of those players were useful to United. One has to question your football knowledge to make such comparison.

lingard isn't useful either that is the point he is disgracefully bad.

kleberson's only played 20 PL games for us but got 4 assists and i believe he was a central midfielder. lingard is an attacker who has got ten assists in 113 games.

if anything, kleberson was better.

Did you actually watch Kleberson and Djemba Djemba? If you did you wouldn't be going on about their stats as either being useful or better than Lingard. It is why your comment is idiotic.

yes i did watch them and kleberson was also technically much better than lingard. he had better stats and was better on the ball - all in all a better footballer. and yet he was a disaster.

which tells you how truly atrocious lingard is.

Then you've got a bad memory.

people always overrate the current players. once lingard leaves you will see i am right.
