Lukaku: United treated me badly

On the other hand, I can understand where Lukaku is coming from, especially with the leaks coming out and having nobody from the club back him publicly or be straight up with him. That must be incredibly frustrating and it still seems like he hasn't been told 100% why he was getting dropped and pushed out the team, which is a bit worrying.

He does appear to have a bit of an ego (which is seen as a positive in a lot of other players eg. Cristiano, Rooney, Zlatan) and posting the team sprint results doesn't quite sit right. However, he has been ridiculed online and in the media, with nobody piping up and taking his side so I can understand him getting defensive about it. Some players might just brush it off, but at the end of the day he's human and everybody is different.

I really don't understand all the hate towards the guy. He's clearly got the talent and scores a lot of goals, but it just didn't work out with us in the end which is a shame.

He started making noise about leaving as soon as he lost his place. His own words where used by the media. The manager identified him as someone not integral to the team. Why would they go out of the way to keep him? He's been worse than Pogba in this regard. I'd add that no one hates him. No more than how they show their ire at other players. Look how people comment about Lingard.

Lukaku is a good striker but if we made the team play to his strengths 6th is the best we'd be looking at finishing. He's not on the level of striker like RVN or RVP nor do we have players in the team of a high level that we're around when time RVN was around.

I’ve seen Belgium play without Lukaku, they’re a better team without having to carry him and his many limitations.

Can you back that up with examples?

I don't know the guy personally to ask him for stats, Robb. You could sign up on the Men website and ask him.

And Switzerland are hardly fodder. Some United fans are incredibly disrespectful to Lukaku and don’t give him the credit his career deserves. Of course there are issues and he’s not perfect but he’s also not anywhere near as bad as the hatchet job in the second half of this article is making out.

The fact we sold him for as much as we did shows that Conte recognises he’s a lot better than we saw in Lukakus second season. He’ll be playing CL football and most likely will be smashing in the goals - I doubt a few spoilt United fans who never really gave him a chance will bring him down.

Sorry, thought the first paragraph of that guy’s comment ended there

Iceland, also. It wasn't too long ago they were knocking England out of the Euros

Switzerland aren't really a top side. If we compared them to a PL side they'd fall in the middle (10th-13th).

He ended the first season with us well but came back from the World Cup in an unfit state. He regressed in any improvements he has made. For a striker, his first touch is pretty bad. He also doesn't perform to the level he does for Belgium. With the latter his role is different. They set up to get the best of him. Jose and Ole set up differently and the role they require aren't the ones Lukaku excels in. Strangely enough, he hasn't built any connections with the other players in the field, other than Sanchez, like he has with Belgian side.

It's also isn't new to see players who do well for country compared to their club. Milan Baros or David Healey are names that come to mind. Even Sanchez has done better recently for country over club.

Conte wanting him and Inter paying big bucks doesn't really prove anything. Morata flopped and still Chelsea made most of the transfer fee back in him. His stats aren't much better since his move.

I'd compare Iceland to Burnley. They did well but its not going to last.

Who would you compare England to?

Everton

And just to prove your point, Lukaku scored a few for Everton against Burnley. 😆

Lukaku 1 goal in 17 games against the top 6 tells you all you need to know.
He was just a big oaf where the ball just kept bouncing off him and could go anywhere. We needed to sign a replacement but I am glad he is gone. The way the league has changed over the last 2-3 yrs does not suit him whatsoever.
Fat, lazy, unfit and shocking touch.

Whips in a lovely ball from the right, though.

He is a really average striker. You did very well to get that much for him. However, an injury to Rashford or Martial and you are in trouble.

I have some sympathy with Lukaku.

Obviously he will have confidence in his own abilities and wouldn't agree with our view - you don't get to that level of the game without having a bit of self belief.

He'll probably disagree that he can't play in the system Ole wants to play and I don't blame him for being a little annoyed at how it played out.

posted on 22/8/19

I think he's just being truthful. There's no doubt that the club were more than happy to get rid of him. He just didn't fit Ole's plans. I think things could have been different, had he he got himself into acceptable shape, but the club certainly didn't give any indication of wanting him to stay.

It's done now though, so he really has to move on. "Woe is me" tweets and interviews twice a week won't do him any favours

Lukaku. A good goalscorer who wasn't right for United.

It is a shame as at the end of his first season he showed real signs that his game was improving only to come back from the World Cup with that improvement all gone.

I do have a bit of sympathy but once you say you fancy a different country to play in one day don't be surprised if that becomes reality. I do wish him well though and hope he does prove a few people wrong. Some players are just wrong for some clubs and thrive at others. It happens.

So he claims he was singled out and then names two other players, one of whom has been possibly the worse signing in the clubs history.

And Sanchez.

It just seems weird that if someone doesn’t work out somewhere they’re instantly a bad player

There is a middle ground. Lukaku is one of the best strikers around but just didn’t fit in this current version of United. He’ll likely score many more goals for an excellent Belgium side and do well at Inter.

Lukaku does not suit the system we want to play and was overweight for most of last season. Even G Nev highlighted his weight recently.

At Everton he was leaner and fitter but still very poor on the ball.

Shame it did not work out for him here and I wish him the best but if you are not part of a managers plans, you will be replaced. Not rocket science.

He needs to focus on getting his first touch sorted

One more flair player who didn’t quite make it at United.

Trust Robb to go against the grain again

Lukaku bulked up stupidly for the World Cup, didn’t trim down and looked completely unfit all season. His first touch is appalling, and yes he scores goals against dross, but he’s utterly useless against anyone half decent.

His comments are appalling. As soon as ole saw the above and put him on the bench, he started making noises about wanting to leave. The fact we got so much money for him is a stroke of luck.

He’s an arrogant swine who can’t back it up.

Here he is, boasting about scoring goals against Switzerland and Iceland, but scoring against fodder is his thing. I’ve seen Belgium play without Lukaku, they’re a better team without having to carry him and his many limitations.

Why don’t they start without him then?
