Kick them out

I note questions asked whether it is legal for FIFA, FA etc to stop players and clubs from playing in EPL and for country etc

The answer is yes

Always been a rule in FA handbook, based on FIFA rules, that teams and players will be banned or sanctioned in a harsh way if they participate in unsanctioned matches and competitions

This does not stop people doing this - but stops them from being involved in any matches arranged under the auspices of these regulatory organisations

This is a massive battle between the old guard organisations and the rest of the world versus these clubs. The authorities must win, else they are dead in the water

I don’t see any 5 clubs joining the ESL for a one off year because the implications for their club are too great, as long as FIFA stick to their guns. That kills the competition.

What I do see is this becomes a veterans league mainly, where only players looking for a last pay day will play. Complete non entity.

But only if FIFA stick to their principles

they will hope more will follow, there will be a lot of political spin / blagging going on, it won't fail but it will not take long before they realise it was a bad idea very bad idea.

That is interesting but also unclear in places. The anti-competitive aspect could of course be aimed at the ESL potentially in that the courts could ban it

Blaming "foreigners" for sheet is the trend right now isn't it? Those foreigners is why we voted Brexit anyway.

FIFA have been based around money more than football ever since Joao Havelange took over in 1974. Whilst UEFA have only ever had one way of dealing with the 'big' clubs of Europe and that's appeasement.

I think there'll be a compromise and a solution (that's not really good for anyone but offers more permanence of income and a greater share of the money to the 'big' clubs, as the re-formatted CL does) will be found.

And then a few years later the 'big' clubs will threaten a breakaway league again. Rinse and repeat.

Unfortunately, appeasing bullies is a short-term solution and only guarantees a return visit to the problem sometime in the future.
