I wouldn't ordinarily start a topic about this, but after being bombarded by news on social media about the missing Nicola Bulley, I finally wilted and familiarised myself with the case, including watching an interview by Dan Walker with Nicola's partner, Paul Ansell.
The reason for starting this topic is not to speculate about what may have happened to her, but to react to the Lancashire Police's decision to release information that she struggled with alcohol due to the menopause. It seems to me to be a staggering piece of information to release, with the possible intention of trying to lend credence to their belief that she came to some level of self harm (maybe via the river), rather than being a statement intended to actually aid the search for her.
What bothers me most about this is that it has, albeit briefly, meant that I find myself in agreement with none other than Nick Bloody Ferrari: https://twitter.com/LBC/status/1626127781586210817
...and for that the Lancashire Police should be fully condemned.
But in all seriousness, is this not a alarming handling of a missing person situation - at least from a PR perspective? And is this mishandled PR the result of an insidious online culture, whereby the Police has been getting hammered for their handling of the case by armchair detectives who are not armed with sufficient information to actually hold any critical position on the police's work?
Go...

Not sure what's so shocking about that.. does it harm their investigation?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I mean, what's the relevance of dragging her personal, private struggles through public mud? How does that help find her? I'm fairly certain that if this was my partner, this is not the kind of information I would want the police revealing unless there was a clear rationale behind releasing the information.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I assume they are appealing to people based on her vulnerability.
I don’t think they did it for a laugh.

I watched the entire press conference yesterday as it came on straight after the Nicola sturgeon one and it came across to me as a police force trying to cover its back and put the blame on others for them not doing their job correctly

Not as prolific as some who seem to spend their entire waking day on here. If it’s fine with you I will post when and where I want

Releasing info regarding her issues with alcohol may seem disrespectful and out of order, but imo there is some method behind doing so.
She may have / probably visited a convenience store or supermarket within the week of disappearing, had she purchased a particular alcohol that she or her partner does or not drink, may offer clues as to what happened thus the checkout operator may have noticed / heard something that hasn't been flagged yet. Was someone else with her in the shop, was someone watching her there? This info may open up new lines of enquiry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure this works as a theory: people are creatures of habit; we frequent the same shops more or less over and over, and by now the police would have had access to her bank statements. They'd have known when she last went to a shop and bought something via card payment. If this were a line of enquiry they were pursuing, which seems far fetched to be honest, they'd just go to that particular shop.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well is she has/was developing a drink problem maybe she changed it up so as not to keep going back to the same place.

there is a class thing in this country, no doubt..i find it sickening tbh
the biggest form of discrimination in British society by far is perceived social class, and not race/gender/sexuality as the media would have you believe
don't think she's particularly attractive though tbh
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Loads of coverage on this case, and they’re definitely not middle/upper class.
