Tottenham Overtake Chelsea

This has come about as a result of the stadium - matchday revenues are now in excess of £105m, plus the ‘side hustle’ of using the stadium for NFL and concerts which means Spurs are making money even when the football team are not around.

The added bonus for us I guess is that not only are we becoming a very wealthy club (and via organic means too), the way in which the club has been run is giving us an advantage in the new FFP landscape. I also imagine our financial advantage over say Chelsea isn’t limited t the numbers on Deloitte as I’d be 100% certain their wage to turnover ratio is much higher than ours, meaning that of the money we both make, we retain more of ours as profit.

All this is all well and good, but the exemplary way the club is run off the field must at some point translate into success on it. I don’t give us much chance of silverware this season, but a club of our size and wealth absolutely must be winning the EFL Cup, FA Cup and/or Europa League level trophies on a semi regular basis to justify its ownership model and the extortionate money it charges fans for tickets. So well done Daniel, but there is still a lot of work to do.

Exactly. We need to win something now more than ever, especially when the likes of West Ham have recently picked up a trophy. Maybe Villa do too this season? Maybe Brighton? And if Chelsea win the League Cup with our old manager, then it matters little that we will have finished above them on the rich list. They'll have won something and we didn't.

No self-respecting fan can user banter like "our club is richer than yours" when the team they're aiming it at wins more trophies than them.

Either way all fans would rather take a trophy than being high on a rich list.

We just need to win something and get the monkey off our back once and for all because we're becoming or have become a bit of a meme club for our lack of silverware.

Things like Jose winning wherever he goes except for with us. Conte, another 'winner' failing with us. West Ham picking up a trophy before we do. Players leaving us and then picking up trophies as soon as they leave. If Poch wins the League Cup with Chelsea then that'll be another one.

I don’t really put much, if any stock in west ham - or villa if they do it - winning the Europa Conference, it’s a two bob competition made up to generate more money for UEFA, and the 7th place EPL club has by far more wealth, resources and better squads than the rest of the goat herders and taxi drivers that compete in that tournament. I can’t remember the figures, but West Ham had the most resources of any club in the ECL last season by miles and virtually every opponent they met probably wouldn’t make the play offs in the Championship. Bigging them up over us for that bit of silverware is like moaning that we haven’t won the Papa Johns Trophy.

It's like the competition was designed for all the clubs who haven't already won a trophy before Spurs, to get a chance to do that. I mean the competition itself is rubbish and has no prestige but when you see these teams win it, who ordinarily wouldn't pick up trophies, while we remain trophyless, then it further hits home our need to win something. That's why FA Cup is top priority for me this season.

Nah I’m with Ace on this one, it’s the most pointless trophy going. Look at West Ham’s opponents in that comp - most were league 1 standard and then 1 decent side in the final. Their Europa route was much more impressive - knocking out Sevilla in their own competition.

Winning that trophy would not have gotten the monkey off our backs, none of the big sides would have taken it seriously. Some idiots belittle the League cup but good and look at the winners of the last 10 years of that - it’s the elite teams, it’s worth 10 of the conference league
